And I'm loving this thing! Never going back after this but I've been surfing the net and reading about how some folks have gotten a lifetime subscription. Is that possible and how much would it be? Very interested if it's offered...

New lifetime subscriptions are no longer offered by Tivo. There is a special deal until the end of the year for current lifetime users to transfer their lifetime subscription to a new S3 unit for $199.

If you can find a previously unactivated Humax unit, you may apply Lifetime to it. Otherwise, you may be able to purchase a (used) Lifetime unit from Ebay or Craigslist.

There are also Lifetime subscription gift cards (no longer sold) that you can use, but that's another eBay type item these days.
