I'm thinking that his thoughts are something along the line of "Couldn't You Could Just View It Via Plex On Your TiVo?"

We're getting hung up on certain functionality, that if we put our mind to it, we effectively have. But more to answer his question fully. If you're upgrading a drive, and you need to store them short term, you have that option.

I'd like to see that functionality restored too.

why not just set up a plex server and keep recording space on the tivo?

Biggest reason I personally prefer a transfer vs. a stream is the tivo transport controls. I've got nothing against Plex (and in fact I keep a copy running for content access on other devices), but the responsiveness of the native TiVo rewind/fast forward and jump controls are just so much better than *any* streaming app I've thus far experienced. If they(TiVo/Plex/another app) can make a moving within a stream feel as 'natural' as it does on a local recording/transfer, I'd personally have no reason left to want to transfer.

Plex does not transfer. If one wishes to transfer, then Plex is not an appropriate suggestion. As to why someone wants to transfer instead of stream, again I ask, why does that matter?

I'm my opinion the USERS are ruining these forums - not TiVo...

Almost every thread devolves into a "why I hate Hydra thread". No discussion can stay on topic, making reading the forums frustrating and almost useless to those wanting info on the original topic of a post.

Before someone says it - I know that if I don't like it, I don't have to read these forums. And that is exactly what I find myself doing increasingly often, unfortunately.

There has been requests to segregate Hydra users and haters. Not going to happen. Not every thread devolves, but many do. But I have to ask, what's the alternative? There is no other place to go. So while sometimes I feel like things are chaotic, there comes along someone who needs help and it makes the effort worth the time.

TiVo doesn't have much affect on the forum, good or bad. Any information from them is always appreciated even when it's not the information we want.

BTW, after a while you will learn who should be ignored. It takes a little while. The hardest thing to do is not respond to a post. But I guess I'm ignoring my own advice. :)

It is partially the fault of the forum design. It would be helpful if the reply box displayed the title of the thread I am replying to, with a reminder to stay on-topic. As it is, all I see is the last message I am replying to. I don't see the original subject unless I scroll back to the top. This makes it difficult to stay on topic after the first few replies.

 I click on TiVo Coffee House - TiVo Discussion when I see it has new posts in any thread. Then I get a display of all threads and those with new posts flagged. I select the thread and I get to the last unread post. Not what you see?

No, it is not. I see new posts in all watched threads. I am replying to your message now, but I really have no idea what the original thread subject is or even which forum this is in, unless I scroll back to the top and look. It would help if this info was displayed just above the reply box.

On a PC the thread title is in the address bar which I have used more than once for the reasons posted

    ivocommunity .com/community/index.php?threads/new-te4-update-starting-to-roll-out.559740/page-6#post-11496025

I modified part of it so the forum software would not turn it into a link but the title is untouched

I've never run into that on any of my TiVos my running They all remember the sort. Although many times it doesn't show the thumbnails initially like it's supposed to. It would certainly be frustrating if it didn't remember the sort options.

My boxes even remember sort options by show as well. I have some shows set to show by episode and some by date.

Joined five days ago, 2/3 of your posts have been complaining about people discussing Hydra IN A HYDRA THREAD.

Help me understand what's going on here, please. I'm a bit confused.

Help me understand how you see this as a general discussion Hydra thread? It’s a thread about the NEW TE4 UPDATE. Yet almost all the posts are by people who don’t have the new update.

Why not create a new thread to discuss Hydra’s issues instead of ruining this thread? Look no one has had more problems with Hydra than myself going back to November and I’ve shared my complaints. But to constantly do it in every Hydra related thread is not constructive and even pointless.

[For the record I created a general discussion HYDRA thread yesterday and then posted here with a link to that thread. Unfortunately both the new thread and referencing post were deleted as I used a banned word. My bad.]

TE4 = Hydra. My understanding is this is common knowledge. Especially considering the first line in the first post says "For those of you on TiVo Experience 4, aka Hydra". Jason's first post, to this thread and in fact to this forum at all, seems to be in response to someone giving a report on their experience with the HYDRA update.

Help me understand how you DON'T see this as a Hydra thread, considering TiVo_Ted says it is. You may not agree with it, but people are going to discuss Hydra in this thread, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

It’s a TE4/Hydra thread specifically to discuss the NEW UPDATE 21.8.1.RC6 as per the thread name. @TiVo_Ted created this thread for issues related to this rollout of 21.8.1.

I could of worded my post better and it’s shouldn’t of been aimed at you specifically and for that I appologise It’s just when these threads become general discussions the signal-to-noise ratio lowers to the point that on-topic discussions get lost.

I couldn't agree more, it is the same people over and over again in multiple threads complaining about Hydra and how they feel it is so bad. I came here for info and updates on the new Hydra update that Ted was announcing but all I see is people telling how bad it is or how bad they think it will be. If you do not want or like Hydra do not use it, there are many of us who have used it since it first rolled out and like it. There are plenty of threads that are already available to bash Hydra.

That's Microsoft for ya. When they make a big change the first version is crap. Then they get it right. A good example Vista was awful. Windows7 was Vista done right. and Win 10 is 8 done right.
