The problem is, somebody would make a half-hearted attempt to bring it back a few years later - anybody who saw either of the two remakes of Match Game in the 1990s knows what I mean. (Anybody who saw the syndicated half-hour version of TPIR hosted by Doug Davidson knows a lot better what I mean.)

Speaking of changes, I wonder if they'll keep the name "Barker's Markers" as a tribute to Bob. (The Davidson version changed it to "Make Your Mark", but that sounds too much like another pricing game, "Make Your Move".)

One good thing about Carey; he's not one of these people who gets real excited when somebody wins. That's what makes hosts like Barker and Alex Trebek good for shows like this.

Just as long as they don't replace "Hole In One...Or Two" with some bowling game...

What about Barker's Beauties...think they'll change it to Carey's Cuties???

Off topic, but I'm curious about something. I watched Barker's last episode. Before that I haven't seen a PIR ep for at least 20 years. The studio looked much smaller than I remember it being. Is this the same studio they have always used? It looked about as large as one of those conference rooms you see at hotels.

Boy, what a horrible choice! I can't imagine Drew Carey as the host of TPIR. Bob was charming, that's what made the show. They really should have found an unknown who could step into that role of "charming host"

Bob wasn't an unknown when he was picked to host the show in 1972 -- he was the host of another game show, "Truth or Consequences," where he was more, uh, devilish is the best word I can come up with (on that show, he'd pose an impossible question to the contestant, and when they inevitably got it wrong, they'd have to do a wacky stunt of some sort).

The reality of television these days is that CBS needed to pick a "name" who would attract interest among the viewers, and more importantly, among the advertisers and the affiliates.

Besides, with the glasses and the crew cut, he looks like the heftier brother of original "Price Is Right" host Bill Cullen.

Yep, it's the same studio -- Studio 33 at CBS Television City. If you think it looks small on TV, you should go to a taping sometime -- as with most studios, it looks smaller in real life. (It has 325 audience seats for "The Price Is Right," if that helps you attempt to judge its actual size.)

That was Craig Ferguson's suggestion last night. He also suggested All-you-can-eat Showcase Showdown and Strip Plinko.

    1. Will Drew finally get a wireless microphone and stop dragging that cable all over the stage?

    2. Will Mimi replace the late Rod Roddy?

    3. Will grandma really keep watching TPIR without Bob Barker?

    4. Remember when an exact match got the contestant the right to reach into Bob's pocket and pluck out a $100 bill?

    5. Will TPIR keep the same cheap plywood and tempera painted sets?

Guess we will have to wait and see...

For that reason, I think that it might take a little more to get the show HD ready.

You mean they don't do that anymore? Does Drew know this? He may back down. :)

I would love (as a guy who has seen maybe 10 episodes in the past 10 years, so I know I have a lot of say in the matter) to see the set revamped--that set hasn't changed since I was a kid (probably way before that).

I just realized his other game show is on CBS too. I suspect that is why he got the job. They probably liked the what he had done there and offered him a tryout or even the job.

So I suspect he will be okay. I have always liked Drew Carey. I would never consider him and Bob Barker to be cut from the same cloth, although Bob had a bit of dog in him, so to speak, not the spayed and neutered kind either.

I never watched this beyond my grade school years and probably won't now even though I like Drew Carey, but I can see Drew kind of making this show his own and doing a pretty good job with it.

As I recall, Bob stopped letting the contestants do this right about the time Dian Parkinson's suit against him was making news - somebody thought a woman reaching into Barker's coat pocket might be considered suggestive.

(Besides, now that the bonus is $500, it would be harder to have to reach in and pull out five $100 bills.)

And speaking of all-you-can-eat Showcase Showdown, I wonder if the producers will allow either (a) meat products on the show (by "meat products", I mean things like Pepperoni Hot Pockets) or (b) non-Big Three cars (or, at least, when they give away Town Cars and Cadillacs, they can have leather seats)?

Will there be a musical episode and an annual "find the mistakes" episode?
I vote for Lewis and Oswald to take over for Barker's Beauties.

That's pretty much what he said happened when he was on Letterman on Monday (where he announced that he got the job).

He said that after he finished shooting the pilot of The Power of 10, CBS contacted his agent to find out what it would take to get him to consider taking the TPIR job.

That is interesting..,made sense, but then I saw the first episode of Power of 10 and the one contestant made a reference to the Price is Right. So I assume they did not air the pilot.

It made sense to me after watching Power of 10, he was very relaxed on there and very good with the adlibs. I suspect he will do well on the Price is Right.

I think you might be surprised. I was a little hesitant too.. but after seeing him on Power of 10, I suspect he will do very well there.

He has a very good rapport with the contestants, and is quick on his feet.
