I saw this announcement the other day: TiVo Adds The Amazon Prime Video App to Its DVRs - Cord Cutters News. I am confused. My Bolt and my Roamio had a Prime App from day one.

I looked for discussion on this and didn't find any, nor have I seen any new announcement form TiVo.

The news release does say this app is for "Pay TV" customers. I assume that means cable customers. I am a cable customer.

    What gives?

It’s for cable company provided TiVo boxes not retail TiVo’s.

It is for Tivo equipment provided by a cable company.

Direct retail consumers of Tivos have had this ability for as long as the app has been available.

The article just doesn't make this distinction very clear...

Today, TiVo launched the Prime Video app on select TiVo devices for its pay TV operator customers nationwide.

Looks like the first sentence covers it. Perhaps folks don't know that TiVo provides services to pay TV operators?

I wonder if this version is any more reliable than the one on consumer boxes?

Why would it be any different? I expect it's the exact same app, and that the local operator could probably direct TiVo to disable if they chose.
