I have read, reread, and re-reread the "Fall 2006 Pricing Changes - FAQ" thread and I still can't make any sense out of it, so I'm wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to tell me what's going to happen in my situation.

I currently have two Series 2 boxes, one is at $6.95/month and the other at $16.95/month with about two years left on a three-year contract.

If I purchase a TiVo HD and opt for the 1-year contract at $19.95 month, unsub the $6.95 box and keep the $16.95 box subbed (because of the contract), does that mean that box will drop to $10.95/month, or will the new box be $13.95/month? Or will something entirely different happen?

Purchase the TiVo HD at a retail store other than TiVo.com. In the account setting on TiVo.com you can switch the service on any box to a new box simply by entering the TSN online. You TiVo HD will slide right in at $16.95 and the other S2 will remain at $6.95. The remaining 2 years you have left on the contract will fulfill the 1-year agreement.

As mentioned by the previous poster, make sure you buy the TivoHD at retail.

How do you have a 3 year box at $16.95? Was it a part of a package deal? If so, that may not be transferrable.

    Ok,

    I have the same set-up as the OP, except I have a pre-paid S2 . Second S2 is currently $6.95/mo.

Say I have switched service numbers to the TivoHD from the second S2 and all is good. Now, let's say I decide to return the TivoHD and want to reactivate my second S2. Can I just change the service number back to my second S2 online? Will I still get the $6.95 deal? Will it still recognize WL/SP/etc from the second S2? Is there more to it?

I want to jump on the new TivoHD but I am a little gun shy and don't want to get my monthly payments all screwed up if I don't keep it.

What do you mean by a package deal? This unit was bought directly from TiVo, if that's what you mean.

What's the monthly charge for a three-year contract? Okay, now I see it went down to $12.95 as of November 2006. So should I be calling TiVo and asking for the lower rate? This box was purchased in October 2006.

If he's paying $16.95/mo for 3 years he got one of the deals where you pay for the box in your monthly payment.

So over the course of 3 years he's paying $610.20

If he bought the original box retail up front, he could have pre-payed for 3years of service for 299 and probably been money ahead. The problem is the cash outlay up front. Marketing told tivo the $16.95/mo and low up front was more acceptable than big costs up front and $12.95/mo for the same contract length.

Another Post where we can all sit around and debate Tivo pricing. Why not introduce a pricing structure most people can easily understand?

Oh wait..... thats just too simple :D

That's the kind of "package deal" that I was talking about.

Since the price of the box was rolled into the monthly service, that may not be transferrable to another unit. I'd check with a CSR before I spent any money assuming that was going to work.

The thing to do is to switch the service from the current $6.95 a month Tivo to the new THD. All the billing will stay exactly the same. If the THD doesn't work out for you, switch the service back onto the old S2 box. Tommy, this should answer your question too (let me know if it doesn't).
No debate, just simple questions with simple answers. The current pricing plans are amazingly simple, unless you're a fool. Deside on "Pre-pay or monthly?" and "1, 2, or 3 years?". For MSD you need a "qualifying unit" and you take 6 bucks a month off the price of monthly service. What could be easier and provide the same amount of flexibility?

    The old pricing structure.

Actually, that's not true. It offered more flexibility.
