It appears that NBCUniversal can't stop rebranding.

So apparently, it's March 2009 again, (which is when they announced that SCI FI would become Syfy) as the suits at NBCUniversal are stating that the reason they're rebranding their mystery/crime channel as Cloo is that they can't trademark/copyright Sleuth or Clue (as Hasbro owns the rights to the latter).

    Yep.

At this rate, in a year, I half expect Oxygen to become Ocksigen and Chiller to become Chillr.

Actually, Chillr isn't all that objectionable, when you consider these other names.

    Cloo? Really?

I guess NBCUniversal's new owner, Comcast, is just fine with all of this silly rebranding nonsense.

Are we mere months away from usa network being rebranded as Yoo Ess Aay?

Cloo is a dumber name than SyFy. Dumber than Reelz, too. I wonder when Comedy Central will change its name to LOLZ.

No. Hasbro (apparently -- I didn't look it up) owns the trademark right to Clue *IN A SPECIFIC AREA*. Presumably whatever area that board games are contained in.

People don't seem to understand that trademarks are limited to a category. You don't own the rights to a word/phrase for everything.

It is a terrible name, but I'd never heard of Sleuth before this thread, so I'm guessing it isn't going to bother me much.
