The one during Chuck took 1/4 of the screen. But since it didn't start at the very bottom, it basically took up 1/3 of the screen that was watchable.

Which Chuck? I have a bunch I have not watched yet and can go see this 1/4 of the screen for myself

"Chuck vs the Crown Vic" at about the 16 minute mark.

This one was noticeably obtrusive. I've become immune to most of them, but when this one popped up, it just kinda slapped you in the face. It was large, obnoxious and took up 25-30% of the screen.

I'm not sure what the answer is; AdBlock for TVs? The inventor would make a fortune (I want royalties!).

Yeah, it's a real problem. At a time when more and more people are able to skip commercials, it's easier for the advertisers to tell how many people are doing it. Obviously, the funding model for "free" television has to change. This is one option; product placement is another. Both get people screaming loudly (although I wonder how many people are screaming; I suspect more about this than about product placement).

I wonder if, in the end, the answer will be to make all TV pay TV?

On my 640 x 480 TV it filled the bottom 1/3 of the screen. I did actually measure it on a screen capture.

That's not a reason to hate NBC. Their programming on the other hand........

Small video overlays are mildly annoying. Animated overlays with sound - obnoxious. I'd like to find out who invented them and punch him in the face.

I have stopped watching channels that make a habit of using the annoying graphics. When I see a movie coming up, if it's on one of those stations, I feel it's not worth it have the movie interrupted, so I pass it up. I opt for watching on a station with a better viewing experience.

Interesting, I normally notice these things and get pretty irritated when stupid stuff scrolls on the bottom about severe weather 90 miles away from me (that occurred yesterday ;) hehe) I did not notice it with either of these shows. Very odd, I'm going to have to undelete them to see it I guess.

It would be interesting to know if it's on your copy of the show. I've been curious about whether the graphics are keyed on locally or nationally.

I noticed the ad was not shown on Heroes, which immediately followed Chuck.

If they do that, they better not charge me for the 20 minutes of figure skating coverage I lost due to the basketball game running overtime, or there will be hell to pay.

I bought NBC's 'Triplecast' for the Barcelona Olympics. It was wonderful -- except for the times the cable company pushed a message out to my box, so that I came home to discover I had a blinking graphic that said "You have a new message" on my tape for a hideously long time.

But the six hours of cross-country from the three day event, with no commercial interruption -- great stuff.

Sounds like overkill to me. 4 or 5 times should do it.

I went to the Chuck epsisode mentioned and yes indeed - that was a 1/3rd of the screen whopper, and it was to sell a DVD no less

I am contemplating deleting my season pass for Chuck even though I enjoyed the first 3 or so I have watched already. Anyone have any contact info on how to complain about that - it was truly rediculous and I have converted to the side of disparaging these -even the little ones because they went and blew them up big

They also ran graphics that said "Now Watching Chuck." I felt like yelling at the TV, "Yes, that's what I'm TRYING to do if you would just let me SEE it."

Then your solution is to spend $4000.00 and buy a new BIG screen TV so that you can regain the ⅓ bottom of your screen. :D

NBC is just making me hate NBC. The flying birds were annoying enough, but this is an opaque ad that covers 1/3 of the screen. Didn't they start the whole animated bugs thing? I remember when people were pissed they put the Olympic rings on the peacock years before the Olympics. I wouldn't be surprised to see them start shrinking the content Bloomberg TV style and placing ads around the outside.

Just checked our recording and it does have that DVD banner ad during the actual episode. Very disappointing.
