I currently have digital cable (Comcast) although no premium channels. I receive HD on the basic channels which is all I currently use. No cable box, no on-demand, etc.

Can I use TiVo HD as is, without the cable cards? And, can I use the dual tuners?

Without cablecards you will get some channels unencrypted, but no guide data...

If you want your TiVo HD to work with Digital cable, you really need cablecards.

This is not true. You will get guide data just fine without cablecards. If all you watch is basic cable, then you don't need them and tivo will work. Cablecards are for decrypting digital channels. Guide data comes from the tivo mothership.

    Your statement is incorrect.

The OP asked about getting his HD channels via cable (which makes sense, as we're talking about the HD TiVo".

You will NOT get guide data on the CABLE HD channels without cablecards.

Of course the analog SD channels will work fine without cablecards.

You will get guide data for channels 2-99 BUT you will not get any guid data for the HD network channels you can also tune in.
