So nice to have Murphy and the gang back again!
Watched 5 minutes, deleted One Pass.
watched very few eps of the original, but couldn't resist seeing how they handled current news events (loved the secretary cameo).
the 1p is on a short leash (i have a tendency to loath most sitcoms), but until there's no time to left to watch due to competing content, it appears i'm in.
I barely made it through the 1st episode. I watched the original back in the day but felt like this incarnation was awful.
I enjoyed it. Better than most sitcoms out there.
I was going to watch, then I read that it's trying to make political statements. I watch sitcoms to avoid that.
I enjoyed it. Fun to see Avery all grown up and competing with Mom. Loved that Phyllis now runs the bar. I always loved Corky and thought it was funny to see her complaining about the young, attractive woman brought in since that was her role on FYI. I hope they don't turn it in to strictly a political show but rather keep it a comedy with that showcases the relationships between the main characters and uses politics for comic relief. If it becomes too political, then I'll be out.
That's how Murphy Brown has always been. They're just replacing Dan Quayle with Donald Trump to update it for 2018.
Candice Bergen was great. The rest of the returning cast seems out of practice on this whole acting thing. Hopefully they can get back up to speed soon.
My only problem with the show is that they've stuck too much to the 80s/90s style of the original. I like the use of the original fonts and music and such. But the laugh track is painful and the entire format feels horribly dated. But CBS does love its formulaic sitcoms with heavy laugh tracks, so I guess we're stuck with that.
I'll keep watching for now, but it needs to improve (and probably modernize a bit) if it's going to last.
I wonder why Haley Joel Osment didn't return as Avery?
Good to see Murphy and the crew back!
Which is funny since Bergen was a terrible actor when it started. She really has improved with age.
I was disappointed and not a moment of it was funny. I agree the supporting cast seemed off their game.
Same. If it wasn't for nostalgia, I would have bailed early. I'll keep it for a bit.
I am hoping that with some age, it mellows and matures/settles in. I've found similar situations with other of the reboots: e.g. "Roseanne" and "Will and Grace."
I disagree with that - I thought the Roseanne and Will and Grace reboots were awesome from the get go. I think that is why I was less impressed with this.
Maybe Rosanne will by one of the old geezer guest stars.
Bergen won the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy for Murphy Brown five times from 1989-1996 and was nominated the other two years she didn’t win in that span. After that she stopped submitting herself to make room for others to have a chance. Yours would appear to be a minority opinion.
I thought it was entertaining. I liked the actor playing Avery from Limitless.
I seldom watched the original show, but I will keep watching this for now. I don't know how long it will last since the ratings were pretty bad despite a lot of publicity. But it was up against a football game. Maybe ratings will improve next week.
i believe i remember hearing sports won over 60% of the highest rated shows, so, yeah, there's that.
