It sure sounds like a hard drive issue (which can be caused by bad power supply capacitors). I know it would seem an incredible coincidence that you're only seeing it on the mpeg4 channels, but that's my bet. I've not seen others reporting this kind of trouble with mpeg4 either online or with some users I'm working with who have the mpeg4 channels running all the time on the bench.

 

Spoke with Tivo customer support, they will attempt to push the update my way within 4-6 business days. I'll let you know how it goes.
