I have been trying to put a film on but when I clicked on
to it from the "search" section, it said watch "on demand" and when I clicked watch, it came up as rental. Does this mean that it would cost to watch it? I can't seem to find anywhere where it says the cost of the movie.

Yes. You would be purchasing/renting the movie from Amazon or Blockbuster, not TiVo. So, you would need to continue to work through the screens to see the cost.

You'll also need to set up accounts with the service provider separately.

If you click on Amazon, for instance, you will be able to check out what movies are available and what they cost. Keep in mind that the movies actually download to the Tivo instead of streaming like with cable VOD. Sometimes it takes awhile for the download to begin. With Amazon you have a pretty good period of time to start watching the movie, but once you start watching it, it disappears within a couple of days. You also cannot transfer the movie to another Tivo.
