To make a long story short...

I have a new Motorola DCH6200 DVR from Comcast and a Tivo HD without a cablecard. The Motorola box has an M-Card in the back (behind screwed-in enclosure).

Can I remove the M-card from the Motorola box and move it to the Tivo? I'm assuming that's the reason that's why cable companies are now required to supply cable cards in their boxes? I'm not going to fry anything? Anyone tried this?

    Thanks.

I'm curious if this will work. Comcast claimed to me that the cards in their new boxes are unique to the boxes and may not work in other non-Comcast devices.

Well Comcast showed up twice to install a cablecard in my Tivo...can't get it working so they gave me this box until they come back again on Friday. I figured...this has a cablecard in it, so why can't I use it?

Also, they left me the box and the DVR function isn't working. Shocker...the tech support people can't get it working so they have to schedule someone to come out. Completely worthless.

    Mission...
The card is paired to the particular box it's in - so while it may work for basic unencrypted channels it probably wouldn't work for premium and CC != 0x0 channels. You would have to re-pair it to your Tivo box for those to work. Depending on your specific headend it may not work at all for any encrypted channels.

Yes, this will work. The card in the DVR is a standard MCard.

If it is paired to your account, you should get all non-copy protected channels if you put it in the Tivo and don't repair/validate it.

However, I doubt Comcast would appreciate this. But if they tell you that you can use the card - go for it.

Does Comcast appreciate me? I think not.
