My primary thought is this would be best moved to the Happy Hour, as it has nothing to do with TiVo. Well unless you stretch and say it has to do with TiVo because TiVo uses Linux...

Ok, if that's more appropriate. What's the difference between coffee house and happy hour? Isn't Tivo also covered under GPL? Are they obligated to release their source code?

TiVo does release the source of its GPL components: http://www.tivo.com/linux I'm guessing that Monsoon is not.

Which is pretty much just the Linux kernel stuff. "Interesting" stuff like the user interface is proprietary.

Well, yes, but that's all the GPL applies to.

Well, that's all GPL2 applies to. Anti-TiVoness was a explicit FSF jihadi goal in GPL3. Hopefully TiVo will just shift to OpenBSD or some other unix with a less fundamentalist license.

OT: what's with the idiotic names for these new things and services?

    Hulu, Hava, Vudu...

TiVo was a cute and catchy name. Those names sound like a retard with a speech impediment came up with them.
