We have those here in Louisville too.
And in New York.
Neither was I. Saw the punchline coming and didn't laugh.
I despised Phil last year. I don't hate him this year. Maybe the character changed, maybe I changed but I don't think "That sure was stupid" every time he says or does something this year.
Conversely, I liked Cam a lot more last season than I do this season. His stereotypical flamey-ness has become annoying. I like the fact that Mitchell is gay without being a total stereotype.
To me that's one of the interesting things about Cam and Mitchell. Cam is more flamey then Mitchell, but when it comes to guy things, Cam is actually more butch, Cam knows how to use tools, play football, and actually played football, stuff like that.
Thought this was a great episode. The whole opening pool scene had so many funny lines you didn't have time to laugh out loud, or you would miss something. The ensemble cast at it's best.
Also, Sofia Vergara in a bikini...even hot when covered up. And Sarah Hyland in a bikini, not covered up. Wow.
So many funny lines you can't even remember half of them.
Claire: 'Christmas is about family'
Cam: 'Who do you think we're going to see in Missouri Claire, the Oak Ridge Boys?'
Hayley: 'Hey math club...get me a lemonade'. Not sure why that made me laugh out loud, but it did.
Lilly: 'I have two dads'...with the perfect comedy timing of Milton Berle at his best!
After Phil said 'come Prancer, come Vixen...hey, that worked out', Jay's face was hysterical.
The 'breakout scenes were funny too...I don't usually like the Sofia Vergara accent jokes, but when they work, they work well (Baby Cheeses, and look Luke)
Mitchell and Alex buying the tree was hysterical. Cam and Jay with Cam's amazing wrapping station. Claire and Hayley in Target...that's where you go for Express Christmas...everybody knows that! Even though you see Phil ruining the baseball card coming from a mile away, as always this cast still makes the obvious funny. 'I'm taking the butterball'.
And I agree Lilly throwing down the last remnant of the tree when they walk through the door was priceless.
Oh yeah, this brings up another point I don't think I mentioned before (at least not on this page of the discussion!).
I thought it was very cool (no pun intended)/interesting/different to have a CHRISTMAS episode, set in CA.. Though having the poolside so hot from sunlight that Phil burned his feet was silly.. (I mean, come on.. It's December, in California, but still.. Shorts, but not burning hot cement!)
AND to have the episode end with SNOW!!!
It wasn't really snowing. Jay ordered fake snow as his Christmas present to the family. The reason he said for everybody to go eat Chinese was so he could get everybody outside to see it.
Oh, I know that it was fake. There was a guy with a machine blowing it over the yard.
I guess I forgot to put a little smiley face in so you would know that I knew that it wouldn't be snowing CA, you know.
And it was neat that the episode started with them by the pool and ended with them having fun in the (fake) snow.
We finally just watched this episode this morning and I have to say I have never laughed out loud so much at a show in a long time. I was actually crying from laughing so hard (though at the very end I was crying because the snow was so sweet).
I especially loved the Manny/Butterball, baseball card degrading condition, and 4-5 seconds scenes.
Another late viewing of this show last night.
Loved all the stuff mentioned prior. The taser after-effects had my wife crying from laughing so hard, especially the last one with Cam. Brought her back to John Ritter in Skin Deep.
