I see corporate mole more than government mole, as I'm not sure what the government would be investigating. But I could definitely see corporate mole in this market.

I also wonder if he's just trying to protect his job due to the firms merging and people getting let go. This is his way of making nice with his bosses.

i think Bob Benson, as Sepinwall said, is a better young Pete Campbell. Corporate climber and brown noser, but just a lot smoother than Pete. I also don't think he's dating Joan only for the corporate benefits, i think that's a double bonus there.

i don't think he's doing all that just out of the kindness of his heart, but i don't think he's a sociopath. just tries to find every possible opportunity to get in on someone's good side, and he's very smooth at it. the dad story is interesting. if he were constantly telling lies, then i'd say he's a sociopath. but all the other instances were just brown nosing (ok, except for the story he gave the nurse to get Joan admitted faster, but i don't count that because he knew Joan knew he was lying, whereas he was lying about his dad without anybody knowing about it).

In one article I was looking at I really liked the theory that Bob Benson is just some homeless guy who lives in the office, was never hired, or isn't even paid. Either that or he is somehow a relative of Don's.

What would he be informing about? If that were really the angle, then we, as viewers, would have already been clued in to the fact that SCDP-CGC is engaging in some questionable activity or has some top secret information that anyone would go to the time/trouble to steal. Since we haven't been given that info, and since I trust that Weiner, as a very good writer, would have given us that info if that's where Bob Benson is going, I'm going to say definitively that Bob Benson is not a mole.

That would work for everyone else in the office. But Bob would never be able to get away with that in front of Joan. She knows everything that goes on at the firm.

An intern ala Kramer. I was thinking that too, but as DevDog says, it would be a stretch that Joan wouldn't be on to him. Or maybe she will figure it out?.

How do you know nobody HERE picked up on that? I sure did. Just because I didn't say something about it doesn't mean I didn't pick up on it...

LOL, Agreed. How could anyone "not pick up on that" They basically beat us over the head with it. Hardly seemed worth bringing up as some incredible revelation.

Well, they beat us over the head on The Big Bang Theory with Penny's drinking, yet we have pages and pages of discussion on that in EVERY thread.

    :)

The point of the Ted thing is that, despite Peggy's belief that he is (and her positively yearning for him to be) the Anti-Don, he's really just Don in sheep's clothing, and Peggy is starting to realize it.

Betty tells Don in this episode that once a woman truly wants him, he doesn't want her. What happens in the last scene? Peggy lets Ted know she's available, and he does exactly what Don would do - runs the other way.
