I caught a segment of something on NPR (radio) with a reviewer gushing about how episode three will blow your mind. Here's a transcript (only mildly skating the line of potential spoilers - the soundbites and excerpts are from episode two, not a teaser).

Is it me, or does this show get a little...odd, sometimes?

I'm starting to feel like this is an amazing meal, full of flourishes and embellishments, seasoned & spiced beyond compare. But there ain't no meat on the bones.

I'm probably the outlier here, but I'm getting disillusioned with this season so far. It's gorgeous to watch, but what little story exists isn't enough to justify an hour. Last year was similar in style, but the substance was real, and every week we got fed. This season, I leave hungry.

really odd a lot of the time - Visually and aurally stunning -
but there are a lot of inside jokes (I'm guessing) that just don't connect somehow.

    I mean - the Dance-fighting was a hoot - but ...

I think the reason this season feels like it's lacking something is because you no longer have the clearly defined enemy in Division 3. Yes, Farouk is technically the enemy, but with David currently in cahoots with him, he doesn't feel like one. I'm still enjoying the season, though. Visually, it's unlike anything else on TV. I loved that whole opening sequence with the cheerleaders. It kind of reminded me of the beginning of Magnolia.

So Syd was apparently born with her powers rather than developing them at puberty -- that's interesting.

I actually think it's improved. I haven't re-watched the first season, but one issue I had with it was that the characters felt like cyphers for a lot of it...it took a while to get to know all these people. And now, they're all like old friends, and the interactions among them are fascinating. They're doing things now that they could never have pulled off at this point in Season 1 because the characters have been so well-developed since then.

I thought this week's episode was far and away the best one so far in S2. I've felt like too much of this season was flash without substance, or just "whatever happens". But this week was strong. Syd has an interesting enough personality (and backstory) to carry an entire hour. And she did!

Anyone else notice that the recap at the beginning of S2E6 began with "Apparently, on 'Legion'..." (instead of "previously")? Seems about right.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. I think they did something different the week before as well...

Two episodes ago was pretty much entirely a cold open. The title screen wasn't until the final scene.

And, yes, I noticed and giggled at "apparently on..."

Tapped out midway through ep 2 as I have absolutely no clue what's happening. Not deleting just yet though... I'll wait until I'm in a different frame of mind!

I just watched the most recent episode (6th to air, but Futon Critic numbered as ep#207 which could mean script number or production number), entitled "Chapter 14" ... but I didn't notice any frame with the title slate in the show as previous eps have done. Here's what I've made note of so far:

["Part Two - The Madness of Crowds"]
    ["Chapter Three Delusions"]
    ["Chapter 4 / umwelt"]
    ["Part Contagion - Five"]
    ["Chapter Six CONSPIRACY"]

i'm absolutely hooked on this show.

This week's episode of Legion makes me feel very uncomfortable about going on the internet to discuss this week's episode of Legion with a bunch of people I've never actually met...

Also, it was twice in one week Plato's cave allegory came up on stuff I watch. (HBO's Fahrenheit 451 being the other)

Another slow and moody episode, not that this is a bad thing, just doesn't make me crave an immediate second viewing (which is how I devoured it last season).

I thought the first season was brilliant, but this season is almost too weird. It's also excruciatingly slow paced at times. I heard the show is hemorrhaging viewers this season. This is not surprising at all. I still enjoy it, but it's beginning to test even my patience.

Absolutely agree. I feel like I'm watching a self-indulgent creation. While there were a few parts of this week's episode* that moved the story, I felt like much of it was just filler. Gorgeous, amazing filler, but filler nonetheless. I kept thinking, if I was an editor, I could cut this episode to 20 minutes. And that's not something you want your viewers thinking while they're still watching the episode.

I'll watch to the end of this season, as I think it's almost over. But unless something happens in the last few episodes to rock the boat, I won't return for S3 (if there is one). I really enjoyed S1 of this show, as scattershot as it was. But S2 has just been too unfocused, too slow, with not enough story. They could have told everything we've seen so far in 5 episodes. And the Narrator interludes have gone from entertaining to dull.

    * took me until Saturday to watch, ie no longer must-see-quickly viewing

Just started to watch S2, only up to ep2, but man, what a trip! Even the opening credits of ep2 was groovy!

Don't understand a damn thing, but Legion is excellent!
