If I had my house painted, and the painter finish painted 2/3 of it and left the other 1/3 primered and unfinished, it would be a problem. Even if it was just the back wall that few people look at. An incomplete HDUI is a problem, when the device is advertised as having an HDUI. Plus, isn't there some parental control function that is missing? (I don't use the latter, so I do not know)

If you can consider speed as a problem (which you do), then one can consider aesthetics as a problem. Not everyone does care about aesthetics, but for those who do, the incomplete UI is a problem. Not everyone cares about speed either.

I refuse to consider a product "good" solely because it's competition is worse.

All things considered, I do like my Tivo. I do consider it the best DVR, have used Tivos since '99, and wouldn't switch to anything else. But, that doesn't mean I'm happy with the recent approach to (lack of) quality.

writing a post to just say things are great is spam, you could give a review of the permier, you could give reasons why you think its better than people say it is,you could do tons of stuff, but just saying its great is spam. it'd be no different then if someone came and said Tivo was terrible and gave no reasons.

and if you think the HDUI not being complete doesn't qualify as a problem, you're delusional to a degree that is not worth me even arguing with.

Hmm. I don't see anything like that in the Forum Rules.

I don't have any issue with the speed of the HDUI. Others seem to. I don't know if I am more tolerant of the speed than others, or if other people genuinely have a speed issue with their boxes.

If you read any of the reviews on the Premiere before you bought it, you knew the HDUI did not cover the whole environment and you bought it anyway. If you interviewed 10 clients of a painter and they all said he left 1/3 of the house unpainted, and you hired him anyway, that's on you.

I love my TivoP as well. I just wish for multi-room streaming to come some day soon!

I will preface all this by saying I got into the Premiere game with 14.6. Perhaps my opinion would be soured if I had started with 14.0. But it gets very frustrating to see people post that Hulu Plus is here, only to have people immediately start 3-4 other threads about how TiVo screwed up the Premiere implementation. The damn thing just rolled out 2 days ago, most of us don't have it, yet a small vocal group (who probably don't have it) feel the need to complain about it's implementation.

If you think you were sold a lie, call a lawyer and file a class action lawsuit.

I appreciate the thread. I can see all the issues with the S4 boxes but it is nice to finally find someone willing to say "mine works!" I still don't have a reason to upgrade until a 3+ tuner box is released but it's good to know the S4 does work, just not as well as some would like.

I love all of mine - use them with HDUI and consider them a great upgrade.
Would I like improvements - sure. Do I regret buying them at launch? Not at all!

Ok, in the spirit of this thread's purpose...

Despite the incomplete m-card compatibility, the original Series 3 was the best darned piece of electronics I ever owned.

(bites tongue and moves on...) ;)

    Some where...
I preordered my premiere in March so iI did not get to to read the reviews. If I had waited 6 months I might not have bought it. I will not buy another tivo or at least wait 9 months.

I'm curious then as to why you labeled speed as a problem, but completeness as not a problem. Both are subjective user experiences. In fact, completeness is far easier to objectify (the lacking HD screens can be enumerated; "speed" needs to be measured with a stopwatch, and tends to vary depending on workload).

I did. However, I also expected the company to finish the product with a future patch, as did many others at the time. This is a mistake I shall not make again. The misguided faith came from the three prior generations of Tivo DVRs that I've owned that have been complete and trouble free. With one product, Tivo turned an advocate of 10 years into a critic.

Also, as people have tried to convince me in this forum many times, I never bought a product, I'm leasing a "service" (thus the high monthly fees). The service is suppose to include software updates. Customer has a right to be displeased is said software updates are few and far between, especially in the light of known and well documented problems.

I still do not regret the purchase. It's still a better DVR than my THD was. However, that still doesn't cover shoddy workmanship.

Agreed. I was just thinking the same thing the other day. My Series 3 has been in the closet for 6 months since I got the Premeire. I set it up in the bedroom last week and I thought to myself "man this was/is a great product"

they took 8 months to roll-out a half-assed app that lags and takes 3 minutes to respond to any commands after you boot it. yeah, people are not going to like that, and people are not going to be fooled into believing it will be improved, they've been bitten by that lie too many times already.

Ive tried it on 2 of my Tivos and one of a friends, nothing is wrong, its just a slow experience. once it loads its fairly responsive, but it takes a long time to load, and this doesn't happen on any other Hulu plus devices Ive tried. it wouldn't even matter if it didn't lag,I wouldn't want to use it,I bought a tivo because I wanted a unified experience, not to jump in and out of poorly written apps.

I shouldn't be sitting at my Tv starring at Menus I cant use because the Box is choking on the interface. I could run hulu desktop on a POS netbook and it wouldnt be this slow.

As of last night I still only had two boxes with Hulu+ on them. But neither of them took anywhere close to even a minute to load Hulu+. Although it did seem like a long time, around 15 or 20 seconds. But I would need to time it to be sure. It could have been only 10 or 15 seconds.

I have had problems with my Premiere since day 1 (reboot issue). Had TWC come out ONCE AGAIN and finally they agreed to run all new lines to my house, pull all new wire through the house, etc.

NOT ONE PROBLEM since. I would venture to say that some problems folks have are caused by issues other than faulty Tivos....

tried it on a wired connection today and it was much faster, tho it did still lag noticeably. I stream videos and download podcasts all the time via the wifi connection though,so I dont know why it should matter.

Where have YOU been? Some people, like aaronwt, have posted hundreds of times, often in just about every thread, about how he seems to have no problems at all. Yes, there are people that are perfectly happy with the Premiere.

Other people have few problems, but are very unhappy with the lack of performance and/or feature availability of the Premiere.

And still other people have some or even lots of stability and bug problems with the Premiere.

As has been said before, people with problems have more motivation to post than those without. Yes, it might look like the vast majority of people are very upset with the Premiere, but that is probably not the case in real life. However, I do suspect the number of people out there that are PERFECTLY satisfied with the Premiere is lower than some people would care to admit.
