Her number "I Don't Know How to Love Him" seems to be a smash all over social media. People are loving her version.

The TiVo didn't warn you that this was a live production, and offer to extend the recording? Mine did.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got hooked in elementary school, i was going to a Catholic school and we had a young priest who was into modern music and he made a presentation of it. I have both the original recording (thank Jesus that has been reissued on CD) and the 20th anniversary recording and the lyrics have been tweaked over the years. I dont remember Caiaphas' line but in the trial before Pilate the line "What is this? Respect for Caesar? Until now this has been noticeably lacking! Who is this Jesus? What makes him special? You Jews purchase your messiahs by the sackful!" is an addition and the whole song "Could we start again please" is an addition.

The costumes were not an issue to me this was a stage musical and not a historical presentation of the last week of Jesus' life I am definitely saving this one on the TiVo. I padded teh recording so I have all the credits and "curtain calls"

I seem to remember, back in the 70's, that a radio station in NYC would play the entire album on Easter, with interspersed narration explaining the story line between each of the songs.
I'm sure I still have a recording of that somewhere on 8-track or open-reel.

Very enjoyable for me. Probably because I prefer musicals where they sing the whole way through, as opposed to the traditional structure of dialog being spoken before breaking into song.

I wonder if that is why people feel -- at least here in this forum; I haven't bothered looking for reviews -- that this was one of the best productions so far in this current era of TV versions of musicals. It's probably difficult to find an ensemble that is strong in both singing and acting, which is more important with the talking+singing structure. At least an ensemble made up of enough star power needed for TV ratings. These sung-through productions can put an emphasis on great singers and you don't necessarily need good actors. I saw John Legend's guest appearance in Master of None and while he may have been okay acting in a 5-minute scene, I can't see how he can hold up doing the acting part for a 2+ musical for TV.

I can’t believe I forget to watch it. Fortunately, Hulu has it.

How does TiVo manage programs that are live on the east coast and delayed on the west coast? Is it still interpreted as "live" on the west coast?
I padded mine by 30 minutes; I'm pretty sure I had the warning.

Not new additions, though. I remember both of those, so they were in the Broadway soundtrack and/or the movie soundtrack (which are the only places I knew this from before now).

Overall I thought the show was pretty good. But when John Legend first came out, I though it was going to tell everyone to get off his lawn. He looked like an old dude in a bathrobe.

I don't recall--but it also wouldn't have occurred to me that that would have been needed with something like this (I would have thought that the network would have had the timing down pat).

I missed it last night, but Chrissy Teigen's live tweeting was a plus.

    One additional point:

I want to commend the production and stagecraft people, for the costumes, scenery/set (marvelous!), filming, direction, and overall production design, which were at the top levels for a Broadway show.

Although, more easily skipped with a TiVo box (but also easily ignored online--although, there were some humorous ads there, in the few I saw).

    yeah

I had thought i had set the TiVo to record it. But when I got home from having dinner, I saw it was NOT being recorded. So I just started to watch what was remaining live.

    Live? Who does that?

I'm never *really* happy with a stage production on TV. Shrinkage.
