It sounds as though they'll try to find a replacement. I can't think of anyone that would easily fit the role that he played on the show.

The last two episodes, with just a road trip in Italy, were incredibly boring.

As someone suggested either here or on reddit they need to make a travel show with cars, food and booze starring him and Bourdain. Man they would get in a fist fight quick.

He'll land on his feet with a similar show, no doubt...

For sure. He's too popular to just disappear.

    Kramer was a character.

Clarkson is Clarkson. What you see is what you get....and apparently people like what they see.

I'm sure his outlook is promising.

So the heads of the BBC cut off their noses to spite their faces. Maybe 6 months from now they get canned for costing the BBC so much money.

His racist outburst was over 8 years after he had become a has been. It's been another 8+ years since that incident and he's still a has been. That's not even similar to Clarkson's situation.

The BBC was left with no other option. According to the reports he verbally assaulted the producer for 20 minutes with "extreme" language and physically assaulted him for 30 seconds.

Should have just fined his butt, made him pay the producer, sign an apology, and give a verbal one as well. I'm certain he's repentant about his actions. As it is the producer is likely out a job as well when the show goes off air.

He has had many many incidents over the years, and a clear pattern of escalation has been established. If given another chance the next time would be even worse. There is simply no way the BBC can afford to take the risk, the next time he may seriously injure or kill someone.

Doesn't Clarkson have some control over Top Gear? I seem to recall a news article a year or so back about Jezza being involved in Hammond & May's pay increase.

As the BBC also mentioned negotiating the contract for the show's continuance on their network, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the other networks will try to pick up the show with Clarkson still there.

Put yourself in that Producer's spot, or any of the other non hosts. If Clarkson isn't fired they're essentially saying, "He can treat as badly as he wants, and physically assault you and it's okay." That's horrible. Imagine going to work everyday with the guy that beat you up and got away with it.

The current betting favorite to replace Clarkson: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-32046547

As for any other network re-creating TG with the same hosts - I suspect the BBC has trademarked many of the recurring bits, like the Reasonably Priced Car and the Stig. Remember that David Letterman had to abandon a number of his NBC shticks when he moved to CBS because NBC had trademarked them. For example, Larry "Bud" Melman had to become Calvert DeForest.

    all the betting contenders: http://www.oddschecker.com/novelty/top-gear/who-will-replace-jeremy-clarkson-as-top-gear-host

Stephen Fry and Steve Coogan would make interesting hosts. Jay Leno is on the list and actually might be a good choice.
