I expanded my series 3 HD tivo drive to 1TB years ago and the drive died recently. It is so dead tivo won't even boot.

Since I still have the original 250GB tivo drive, I can just repeat the instructions to expand the tivo drive to 1TB, right? I don't care about losing the recent recordings.

I found a 1TB WD AV-GP drive (WD10EURX) selling for about $49 from amazon. Is this the best drive (best as in longest lasting, quiet, etc) I can buy from a reputable store?

WD10EFRX 1TB Red is the current recommendation.
    WD20EFRX 2TB will also work in a Series 3.

WD Green is not being made anymore and what is currently selling is old stock and overpriced. WD Green also needs a few settings disabled (Intellipark, PowerUp In Standby) to work in Tivo. The programs used must be in a DOS type environment (Pre-Windows).

Update: Amazon list the WD10EURX for $45, but it says its 7200 RPM (not for Tivo) and its in bulk.

My tivo is up and running again! Although, after replacing the drive (using the original 250G tivo image from years ago), the program guide didn't work, even after it successfully connected to tivo. I ended up doing a guided setup to get it working again.

BTW, I bought a Roamio OTA in November. It came from TiVo with a 1TB WD10EURX. I have that drive in two older Roamio boxes and a WD30EURX in another. They are not 7200rpm. Sadly, the green drives are no longer made.
