Is there a way to transfer my lifetime service to a new tivo?

Sorry if this has been asked many times, but I've done several searches and I can't find a good answer to my question.

I have a series 2 Tivo with lifetime service. I'd like to get an HD tivo. Is there a way to trick the HD tivo into thinking that it's the series 2 tivo, so that it keeps the subscription?

Or, is it possible to modify my series 2 so that it records HD?

    Thanks!

    Ontario Canada.
    No in either case.

Lifetime is tied to the TSN of the box on the account, and your box uses that TSN to also figure out what it is, and what software drivers and features to run. If it thinks it is something else that it is (240 ID in Gen05 box), things get royally screwed and won't work.

The Series 2 cannot be made to record HD either.

The only way to get the Lifetime from that Series 2 to a Series 3 is through official CSR channels.
Also, moving a crypto/ID chip from one TiVo to another is OT here.

Thanks for the reply. That sucks, I'm used to my lifetime sub and I don't want to pay a monthly fee :(
