Hey guys, I couldn't find any other recent threads on this, but I was wondering if it is possible to play or stream shows on my Tivo HD that I have previously transferred to my computer and deleted from the Tivo. I would like to keep a catalog of shows on my pc so I can watch them on my Tivo whenever I want, and obviously the Tivo's hd space is limited and I have a lot of space on my PC. Anyone know if this is possible?

I do have Tivo Desktop, obviously since I can transfer shows to my PC. Does this allow me to watch transferred shows located on my computer on my Tivo? I tried this and the shows don't show up on my Tivo that I have deleted from my tivo but still have on my computer.

The shows on your PC need to be located in your My TiVo Recordings folder and TiVo Server has to be running. If you've done that then when you go to your TiVo there should be an icon at the very bottom of your Now Playing list which links to your PC. Click on it and it will show you a list of all the shows on your PC. Select the one you want and click transfer. The show will be copied from your PC back to your TiVo.

If you have the free version of TiVo Desktop this will only work with .tivo and .mpg files. If you have TiVo Desktop Plus you can also transfer .mp4 and .avi files as well.

Yes, the computer should be showing up as an item near the bottom of the TiVo Now Playing list. If it is not, you probably have security software on your PC that is blocking the necessary access.

I don't want to have to transfer the recording back to the Tivo. I just want to be able to stream it to the tivo. Is this possible with the Tivo desktop software or do I need something else?

Not possible with Tivo Desktop, but see this thread:

NOTE: You can't stream back the .TiVo files - you have to decrypt them to .mpg first using tivodecode (or one of the wrappers/GUIs around it).

You might also try VideoReDo. It allows you to not only strip the encryption but also allows you to edit out the commercials.

TiVo Decoder will also convert your .TiVo files to .mpg. It's much more limited than Video Redo, but its extremely handy for batch handling of large numbers of files if all you want to do is transcode them.
