OK - but would it as well as the Plus and Pro take larger than original HDD DIY 'plug & play'?

Have you considered even asking someone that might know matter of fact? WeaKnees comes to mind?

You've tossed the original HDD and looking for advice! I'd say they might have been a 1st call a very long time ago!!

I haven't read otherwise here. My understanding is that the Roamio OTA boxsimply is a Roamio (Basic) box minus the cablecard connection (which can be added back in, DIY-fashion).

You may need to "initialize and format" hard drive. Not sure how to do that with apple computer. Only takes 30 sec w regular PC. Maybe you could drop by local computer repair shop and ask them to initialize and format drive. Should be free or very cheap. Could call local shop and ask. I recently upgraded a Roamio w exact same drive.

Using a drive holder, a cradle with a USB 3 connector, I always perform a full format on a new drive. A 3TB WD red, as shown in post 1, takes about 18 hours. The PC is stiff working during the format process. I think I bought the cradle with a drive installed a few years ago since it only has a Seagate name on it.

Just checked. It was an enclosure only. I bought it on eBay.
