Finally got my new tivo. Install was a bit of a chore, call cable, cable says to call tivo, tivo says to call cable...blah blah blah. About 2 hour setup.

It's oddly similar to the directivo of many years ago. Seems fairly easy to navigate, the channel guide is great! A huge upgrade from the SA 8300, but doesn't seem too much of an upgrade from the HR22 DTV.

I'd like to ask a couple questions from those who know this system.

-Instead of pressing the tivo central button, can you somehow go straight to your recorded shows, without having the extra step of going to tivo central then my shows? Like the list button on the HR22?

-With the SA 8300 i had normal channel numbers in HD 2,4,7 etc were all in HD, now with tivo and the cableCARD SD channels are lower and HD starts at 702, is this just the way it is?

Any help is greatly appreciated by the NOob.

TiVo just uses the channel listing provided by your cable company so that would be correct if that is your local lineup. They don't offer any option to change the channels numbers locally.

Under settings and channels you can remove any duplicate channels you want. Most people remove the SD channels so you only see the HD channels.

As far as getting to My Shows quicker, I usually hit the TiVo button before I even turn the TV on just to make sure I am not on live TV. Then I hit TiVo again. There might be a TiVo+# shortcut, but unfortunately no on the current remote there isn't a button for the shows.

Yes, that is how it is on cable systems. But you can disable the channels in the settings so the SD channels that have HD channels don't show up in the guide. In fact, most people go through in uncheck all channels they don't receive too. This way your guide only shows you channels you receive.

I saw the function for unchecking channels, I'll have to spend some time and go through that.

Too bad about the "list" feature, oh well.

One more thing for now: Is there no "off" on the tivo? it never shuts off? My logitech is programmed to shut everything off but i still see the light on the tivo when nothing is recording.

Oh, and yeah, many posts complain that it's slow....yup i concur, it's kind of slow. But so far the positives outweigh the negatives.

There is a stand-by, but I don't know the remote shortcut. It uses very little power when running. Since it is always recording a 30 minute buffer on both tuners, it couldn't really be shut off.

There's no need to turn off a premiere. Compared to the SA 8300, the Premiere is very efficient and uses very little power compared to pretty much any other dvr on the market. And the more a TiVo premiere is shut off, the higher the likelihood of some type of failure.

Is your logitech a harmony remote? Harmony's database has a code set for Tivos and it includes a list and (IIRC) a stand-by code that you can program into the remote.

But "standby" isn't even remotely similar to "off" because all it does is shut off the outputs.

The "list" command is also available with harmony remotes. You just have to set it up. It should already be in their database. I use it all the time with my premiere and my elite

What model of Logitech remote are you using. I have a 880 that I use in my bedroom plus I have a Harmony one in the living room. I have a list button set where i can go directly to my programs with out pressing the TiVo button.

I have a harmony 670, it's and old one (bout 3 years) but a great one, i love it.

It had a list button on the screen when using it as my HR22 remote but not now. I'll go into the settings and see if i can add anything.

But you are both saying this works? skipping the tv central screen??

I cannot find it, nor can i manually teach the device as there is no "list" on the factory tivo remote.

I had the 670 just a month ago with the list command programmed in. You need to go to customized buttons for the activity and it should be there. Yes the list command takes you right to my shows and bypasses TiVo central.

i'll give it another shot, but i'm having trouble with the harmony software, it keeps telling me there is no network connection, yet i'm posting here...Odd.

I was able to get on earlier and didn't see any option for list. On your harmony what button does that?

I set it up as one of the four options on the LCD screen.

I just spent two hours working with this remote. I was able to program a lot of buttons the way i want it, like the page up/down instead of channel up/down to go through the guide and exit to go live tv and menu to go tivo central instead of the screen button.

Point is, I just spent lots of time looking around the remote software for any button that could resemble what you are referring to but i can't. And since there is no button on the tivo remote in which to learn "from" I just can't do it.

I appreciate your help, but i can't figure it out.

You can always just hit the TiVo button twice. It takes you right to the My Shows list.

But it does do what he is asking and as far as I remember this is exactly what the SA boxes do.

I don't know of any DVR that has a true off functionality.

Hit the TiVo button twice and you go to the "My Shows" List. It's very quick that way. Or you do it with a harmony remote which has a one button shortcut.
