Just curious based on the other thread. If you had to pick one, if the Now Playing area was going to standardize on one format would you rather have single threads for each season of a show or individual threads for each episode of a show.

I know arguments can be made for both sides and it may make sense to do one way for a particular show and another for a different show. But if you had to pick one, which would it be?

If I had to choose one it would be per episode.

I like entire season threads for shorter run shows or shows that don't have a lot of viewers. Burn Notice, The Ultimate Fighter, Royal Pains, etc. But for "full season" or hugely popular shows like Modern Family a single thread for an entire season would be a nightmare.

Some shows require Episode Threads. No shows require Season Threads. Therefore I pick Episode. But I'm with CB, I like both formats, depending on the show. :)

Yet another vote for this. There are certain shows that don't need per-episode threads and the discussion will actually be hindered by having per-episode threads. Therefore, I'm not voting because I don't want there to be a forum requirement. In my opinion, it's been working fine and will continue to work fine without the need for any additional rules.

    Both, depending on the show.

I should also emphasize that I am against standardization, for the reasons discussed above. Some shows need single episode threads, and we usually know what they are pretty quickly. Others are just fine with a season-long thread, because otherwise all you would have are a bunch of 1 or 2 post threads, which are no good for discussion.

I can only imagine how long the "Lost" thread would be if there was just one per season.

AVS Forum has one thread per show. Not per episode or per season but per series. One LOST thread, ever.

I prefer how we do it here. Episode threads for me.

Considering I'm usually behind by at least a week on most shows, I rarely participate in season long threads. Though a couple of you might like that. :O

If I HAD to pick one, it would be episode.

My first thought when I read this thread was "where's the DO NOT STANDARDIZE" option?

Everyone else has covered all the reasoning behind my thoughts.

    +1

This is a very flawed poll. There is absolutely no reason why standardization is required. The vast majority of posters in this thread don't want standardization. There is no way to express that preference in the poll.

The results of the poll have absolutely no validity.

Same here, and also not voting cause I don't want there to be a requirement.

A couple of years ago I started watching "Jericho", long after the original run. It was nice to be able to go back here and find the threads for the episodes I just watched. I didn't post anything but liked being able to read what other people thought of the episode. It would be a complete fuster cluck to try to go through a whole season thread this way.

It would be far better to just have a Usenet feed, where a thread would be per show, and you could easily search for the specific show in the feeds.

Some sort of Usenet <> tivocommunity gateway would be so awesome. (just like there are email lists <> NNTP gateways.)

I don't understand why it can't be both. There is no reason to force every show to a per-episode model or force every show to a per-season/series model.

Just because someone starts a Poll doesn't mean it's going to lead to a change in the forum rules. I don't see anything changing. Most people seem to like things the way they are. I didn't vote in the Poll either though. There isn't a choice there that reflects what the majority wants. ;)

ETA: Maybe the way to balance that Poll is for everyone to vote for "Whole Season". That would destroy any evil plans to manipulate the results. :D
