So are we supposed to believe that Niska actually has the consciousness program and that the hard drive the mother hid in her closet doesn't actually have it?

Given that Niska is the most militant of the conscious Synths about human oppression, that's not likely to be a good thing for humans in S2.

So was Karen just going to go back and make a life with Drummond? Now that Hobb and Drummond know what she is, will she be able to continue working in the Synth investigations division?

Well, Leo became sure that Karen, the synth made in his mother's image, was necessary to release the coding to create synthetic consciousness.

In fact, even though Karen began to turn on the group after they networked together, Anita/Mia convinced Karen to stop. So, Karen ultimately did NOT turn.

I wondered about that, too. Did Niska palm the ONLY copy, or did she have a second copy? If Niska has the only copy, I wonder if the program may have some safeguards that might require more of the group be present when further synthetic consciousness is activated.

Ahh, probably not is my guess... but who knows? Tune in next season: same Bat-time, same Bat-channel.

Exactly. Leo was so consumed with restoring Max that he was willing to take the risk by bringing Karen into to process.

I liked it, but a creepy show and a weird ending to season 1.

No, I meant the people who where going to destroy or "remake" the synths should never have allowed Karen to hang around. Why? They should have either locked her up after they good what they wanted or let her to move on. She had no reason to be there for them.

Wowsa. What a fantastic series. It's started off pretty good, then it got realllly good, then it got GREAT. Those last few episodes were amazing, with so many twists and turns within each individual ep, one surprise after another. Very unusual situations, with the family first mistrusting the synths, then supporting them, then mistrusting them again, then... while the synths went through similar changes in their feelings for the family. There weren't just plot twists, there were emotional twists, minor things that really paid off, such as Niska starting to bond with the little girl despite herself, then that chilling moment when the girl is sitting in her lap and the parents turn and look at her in shock when they learn she's a killer, and Niska pulls her arms from around the child as she sees the fear in their eyes. That was a great moment. Also, the cop/synth, who was so "human" and normal and likable, then becomes a (sympathetic) villain, then... Most of the characters have these constantly shifting attitudes and perspectives of other characters throughout.

The acting is also excellent, especially by those playing the synths. That takes real skill, to portray both the machine and the human characteristics and make it believable, which they all do quite well.

An unusual story with unique characters thrust into bizarre circumstances. Very well done.

I'm a little surprised how much everyone liked the finale. I thought the season was very smart and well done but was a bit let down by the last episode, where I feel like they had some nonsensical things just for the sake of plot.

For example, in what way does threatening to release some home video impact Hobb so much that he'd be willing to release the synths?!?! That just did not make any sense.

Second, the whole thing with Karen being convinced to give up her very strongly held belief that self-aware synths would be a complete disaster for the human race as well as synths, by just a couple of sentences by Mia was not well done. They laid no groundwork suggesting she might be on the fence about this, but just a brief conversation and she's giving it all up.

The switch with Niska stealing the thumb drive was a neat trick, though, I didn't see it coming until Mattie couldn't find it.

That was a pretty large "thumb" drive...

    thread bump here.
from my search I didn't see a season 2 thread. sorry if I missed it. But I'm keeping my comments generic.

I watched season 1 on Amazon Prime. And then paid for season 2 from amazon.

So weird seeing Katherine Parkinson (Laura). She was Jen in IT Crowd. Took me a while before I recognized the voice and went to IMDB.

Good to hear season 3 is filming now.
Whats the delay in getting that here in the US once they show it in the UK?

It did not seem like a show I would like but I finally watched it on Amazon Prime. Pretty much what I expected but, wow, was it good. Much better than anything else I've watched recently.
