Jodie Whitaker is quitting after the latest series, due to air in the Fall!

Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker 'quits as Time Lord after three years'

I guess we'll go through the whole 'Who will be the 14th doctor?' thing soon.

I'm sure it's true enough but when The Sun, Mail, Metro and Express are the only sources, you still wonder.

Yeah, I think it's The Sun that runs this story after literally every season, knowing that eventually they'll be right and they can brag about "breaking the news" when every Doctor quits...

    Ellicott...
There was a spoiler at the end of the latest Doctor Who special with the Daleks that showed a new character coming to the show. I thought it might be a new companion since two of them left, but it might be the new Doctor based on this news. I had no clue who the actor was, but he was young and ruggedly handsome, which would be a complete departure from previous Doctors.

I was surprised to hear that Jodie Whitaker had actually quit since all previous doctors in the new series, with the exception of Christopher Eccleston, had only played the role for 3-4 years each so her stint as the Doctor was probably up anyway.

I think they all “quit.” None of them were fired as far as I know.

I just wish they'd finally hit on a good Master.

Missy was a great Master. Much better than John Simm was. Who was too manic and not calculating enough.

Actually, if you read the article, The Sun quotes that other bastion of English journalism, The Mirror!

I thought both were great. Although Missy was closer to the classic versions of the Master (and probably my favorite incarnation). The current one is a bit closer to Simm.

Come on! The Daily Fail, I mean Daily Mail, is reporting it. It's GOT to be true! ;)

In any case, if true, I don't think it'll matter who the Doctor is until Chibnall leaves. I think this run has easily been the worst since the series returned. It's a bit of a slog to get through each episode.

    • Agreed. The standard of writing has been lacking for Jodie and Capaldi before her. Neither have really been able to stamp their own identity on the role (Peter more than Jodie) and what was with the sonic sunglasses and guitar????????
Also, three companions makes it confusing. It was like Chibbers was trying to be PC!

Yeah...honestly, I think they're potentially the two best Doctors of the modern era in terms of the actors and the concepts, but they've both been terribly handled by their respective show-runners.

There was just a synergy between Davies and Tennant, and Moffat and Smith, that hasn't been matched since.

I've watched every episode of Dr Who that is available to me (I think a few are lost). Started when I was a teenager, continued through the new series.

I was really looking forward to the 13th doctor, but damn near every episode has required every bit of my completionist stubbornness to slog through. They're not fun. They're not entertaining. I only watch because I'm invested in the franchise. I hope enough turnover occurs that the 14th doctor can be something I look forward to again.

The guitar didn't bother me at all. I thought that was a fun addition to his Doctor's character. The sonic sunglasses was a little odd though.
