I just had my HR10-250 receiver activated through DirectTV (it was used). I tried programming the receiver to remote using the "01442" code. However, it continues to turn off TV (still programmed to my TV) but DOES NOT turn off my receiver. Here is where it gets weird.

The remote DOES turn off my Sony Audio Receiver (for surround system) as well as it DOES control the 10-250 functions. So I can change channels with remote, operate TV, even TURN OFF a completely different piece of equipment, but I CAN'T turn off my receiver. Anyone have a idea as how to fix this?

If you are referring to the HR10-250 as your receiver, it does not really turn off. We have owned two of them for years and never even thought about trying to turn one off.

Not to sound weird but doesn't that waste a lot of energy?

Sure, but it's kind of hard for a DVR to do its job of recording television programs if it's turned off.
