I recently upgraded from a Series 3 to a Bolt.

In the Series 3, TV (live or recorded shows) would never play in the background while using menus. This was nice if I wanted to start watching the beginning of a sporting event, that I was taping, while the event was still taking place. I would push the Tivo Home button, before turning on the TV. That way, I wouldn't go to live TV and possibly see the real-time score.

But it seems the Bolt has a "feature" where it will show you live TV from 1 of the 6 tuners when you are in the start menu. So I basically have a 1 in 6 chance of seeing the live score of the game that I'd like to watch from the beginning.

Is there a way to disable "background TV" in the Tivo Bolt menus?

    thanks

Settings & Messages -> User Preferences -> Video Window (turn off)

This is the path for TE3 (Encore), TE4 (Hydra) may be different.

    Press Slow.

    Series 3 never had this.

Thanks - I was looking through User Preferences, and I somehow missed this.

That setting is rather pointless because whether you have it on or off, the window can always be turned on and off with the slow button (|>) when on a menu screen.

I don't know that I'd consider it pointless for that reason. After all, if it defaults to being on you can also turn it off (temporarily, at least) in the same manner. I frequently turn it off that way because of sound issues with my cochlear implants, and it stays off for some time or until I turn it back on.

    Isn't that what I said?
