How stupid are these new Rovi guide data entry people?

Even if lifetime subs are not an explanation, trying to blame it just on the data entry people (as the title of this thread does) is unfair scapegoating.

Scapegoating? Who is to blame for the preponderance of Rovi's bad or missing guide data, then?

It's only been advertised for a week or two already...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Friday afternoon it still did not show OA, but that junk. My tivo showed a connection at around 4 am on Fri. I connected late afternoon on Fri and it was fixed. Ridiculous!

I had a nice pic to show about this, but couldn't put the image on here. I don't know why they make it so hard with these URL's. I copied it to my Google Drive and Dropbox and neither of them showed the image using the share link. I know I have done this before. XDA is very easy to insert images in a post. What am I doing wrong. Anywho:

As I said in the previous post, it was still messed up at the Fri 4 am connection. I did record 2 pm on MSNBC when it said Indy Car. Forced a connection in the middle of the recording and the title changed to Katy Tur. This is a new one.

On an off topic, Thu night (a couple on Fri too) was Horrible for Skip, BUT one MSNBC nighttime program HAD SKIP! Now that has never ever happened...:D

It's a fair point. Let's go ahead and assume for a moment the entire data entry team is a bunch of monkeys chained in front of keyboards. Anything resembling a coherent thought is a miracle, let alone it actually having any relevance to the show being described. Now that this is established, let's ask ourselves this. Who hired these monkeys, and who keeps them employed rather than replacing them? Does that person (or persons) not share at least some of the blame? Is it not clear that that person (or persons) simply does not care in the slightest?

For what it is worth, I agree with you, the data entry team appears to be a bunch of idiots who have never even heard of television, let alone watched one. But as was said earlier, the fish rots from the head. The people doing the entry ain't the head.

Sometimes we wonder if people who work for TiVo use a TiVo. Maybe we should now wonder if those who control the guide ever watch television? The guide shows errors that, if it was a newspaper, would show that there are no proofreaders. But it's not just TiVo. There are frequent errors on news network crawls and banners. Some repeat all day.

After 19 years you would think the guide would be a finished product. It seems more like a work in progress.

For some reason, over the past two weeks Rovi has been tinkering with the titles of TV shows and giving them new IDs, breaking the existing OnePasses and creating new folders for the same show. It happened with all my local news programs and a few sports programs.

My FIOS DVR which uses Gracenote isn't having any problems at all.

I don't know TiVo's internal organization. Like you said, there has been experimentation since Rovi took over. Probably because the original "TiVo way" wasn't the "Rovi way". Adding the year as a season, using the season & episode as a title, and I could go on. Someday they will get it right. Until then, I really miss Gracenote.

Tonight's"Billions" says season 3 episode 3. I have not missed an episode and this is episode 2. Of course I searched and googled and panicked thinking I missed an episode. Thanks !

Yes, "The Arrangement" is now apparently two unrelated shows, per Rovi.

They had episode 5 of McMafia on AMC as late as Sunday as an old program that was first shown a week before when they had the two hour premiere of Terror on. If you had set up a season pass with new only it probably wouldn't have recorded it unless they fixed it by Monday. I wasn't using season pass I just clicked record on this past Monday's episode. You can't win. If you set it up on season pass to record all episodes you are stuck with repeats in your library. You can't trust just new episodes with Rovi unless your sure it won't be screwed up. It's the same nonsense over and over with Rovi.

The awful program descriptions don't help either. Worse - they're obviously tailored for TV Guide's old magazine rack format and not for the TiVo display because the TiVo will only show 2 lines of the summary which almost always start with pedantic flowery text and appear on the display like Star Wars: "In this delightful, action packed space adventure a young"

I concur 100%. Either there is no description ("No program info available") or the text is so verbose and superfluous that by the time you're two lines in to the actual content, you're unable to read any further due to the two line restriction.

Rovi is probably the most incompetent tech based company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

While absolutely high up on this list, after what Symantec did to Norton Utiltiies/Antivirus, they're definitely in consideration for most incompetent. At one point their antivirus was so heinous it would have been better to let a virus attack your computer, as the virus would have been less disruptive. One could argue using malware tactics to trick people who explicitly said "do not install Windows 10" into installing Windows 10 anyway makes Microsoft qualify, but even their worst detractors would probably agree that this was more of a stupid decision rather than an example of incompetence oozing from every pore.

That said, in the world of fictional companies, I would say Symantec is LexCorp. Run by a completely amoral person who will happily kill you for a nickel. Rovi is Omni Consumer Products...buying companies with the intention of running them into the ground, also happy to kill you for a nickel. Or because nothing is on TV. Or because it is Tuesday.

I thought buying companies with the intention of running them into the ground was American Business Practices 101 these days.

No one cares about giving good service anymore -- it's all about how they can enrich themselves (and, possibly, the stockholders).

Here's a good one. HBO: John Oliver for 6/24/18 on my guide and tvguide.com:
John Oliver es el encargado de conducir este espacio de humor que durante treinta minutos le da una satírica mirada a las noticias, a la política y a eventos de la actualidad...

My spelling checker doesn't like this description. :D
