Wow. This episode was rated 'MB', for Major Bummer.
Major Bummer! *salute*
I was both thrilled to death that they were going to make an actual commitment to a direction that could really have worked for them, then appalled at how they threw it all away and made the Robin pregnancy arc a total misfire.
For me this episode showed both everything they do right, and then unfortunately how they screw it up.
A Robin pregnancy story would have been the worse misfire, so I appreciate that it was just a scare and it sent her in a different direction.
Yeah, that's what I thought at the end.
The other part with the kid partying at Marshall's house had a few good moments. I loved when Marshall looked down through the skylight and the kid pulled out a sandwich and took a bite.
It bothered me...I do not know ONE woman who'd not take a pregnancy test before going in to the doctor. I am not even sure your doctor would see you like that.
And most certainly, they wouldn't run any test that would determine infertility at that point.
I could certainly see the "not being able to have kids" aspect as a way out of that, but keep the future kids for her and Barney, that could REALLY have worked well IMNSHO. Wiping the kids as not existing in the end, that's my big complaint since it was such an AWESOME tweak to the formula they could have used to their advantage.
Not even just a little bit?
How about home testing before bridging the subject with potential fathers?
Having gone through 5 years of infertility testing, there is no blood test or urine test that would tell you a woman can't ever have a baby.
The only thing I could think of something with such a quick response would be an ultrasound and finding out the woman had no ovaries and/or uterus (which is highly unlikely).
Absolutely no realism there at all.
I assume that meant the kid was lighting up. Did everyone else?
I assume everyone came to the same conclusion.
As long as it was a mari...nated sandwich, yes.
Oh, and I also like the kid's later comment to Lily about how it was nice to finally see her face
They should do away with supposed Ted's kids the same way and just end the show already.
Yep, exactly this.
Although perhaps it's just those of us who've been unfortunate to go through infertility testing that would know that.
And very rarely do you get "you'll never have a baby" - it's more along the lines, of "it will take some work, but there are options".
Three kids later.. there were plenty of options (In my case just fertility drugs)
I didn't like the kid in the house storyline.
I loved the jokes Barney made when he first found out Robin was pregnant (something about being fat and then about her boobs not getting the memo).
I also really liked the last moment with Robin and Ted and the decorated apartment, despite the fact that it would sooooo hard to actually do an apartment like that.
Absolutely. No ambiguity there.
The puzzled look on Lily's face when he said that was hilarious.
