premiers tonight. i'll set up the season pass and check it out...
It has been On Demand for a few days now.
When he asked Veronica Mars if her "poop chute" was an option, I was pretty much already over the show. What bothered me more though was all the breaking of the 4th wall. The writers seemed to think the audience was too stupid to "get it" and we needed a character to walk us through everything. The characters are not as cool or edgy as they think they are.
I did like all the ways they pointed out how the amnesty plan wouldn't end up hurting them very much: deny some for technicalities, people will get lazy, people will die, make it hard to fill out the forms, etc.
I downloaded for free off iTunes like a week ago, but never got around to watching it. I deleted that and recorded it off DirecTV last night. I'll give it a watch, but I saw a couple "meh" reviews.
Its been on youtube for a couple weeks too. I thought it was ok, but I dont plan to make a pass for it.
I'll always give new shows at least 2-3 episodes for the writers to flesh things out. Many of my favorite shows I didn't initially enjoy. I thought this was ok. If it improves great, if not oh well I'll move on. I like Cheadle.
I'm liking it so far.
It was OK hopefully it gets better. I was more shocked to find out this is a half hour show.
It comes across as loud and gimmicky, like its trying WAY too hard to be edgy.
I hated the stops in action so Cheadle could stare at the camera.
I'm in for the duration. Loved it.
It got better as the episode went on. It did feel like it needed to find itself a bit, but I'll stick around for a bit and see where it goes.
I really will stick around for a couple of more episodes, but I didn't really enjoy it all that much.
It did have a lot of "shock" value (and I am not a prude at all!!), but I thought it was purely for 'shock value's sake'.
They had relatively explicit hetero sex, lesbian sex, strip joint, drunkeness and substance abuse, transgender issues (love that his son auditoned for the role of Sandy!), foul language throughout, body parts reference throughout, crass descriptions throughout, etc. etc.
Again, I'm not a prude, but much of the above had nothing to do with the either the content, subject or humor of the show. Perhaps there was some 'character' development....but I'm finding it hard to like any of the characters right now.
Anyway, I was disappointed in the first episode, but will watch a couple more to see if it goes anywhere, or if it remains juvenile and shocking'
Me too. It really got in the way of the flow.
It's crude but quite accurate. I used to work in management consulting. The pay was great and the hours were brutal. As a result, the work hard play hard mentality was very prevalent.
I could do without the fourth wall monologues by the Cheadle character.
The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
Yes, I was annoyed by that by the second time they did it. Hopefully they phase that out quickly.
It was alright. Hopefully the 2nd ep is better.
I liked it a lot. I also thought they did breaking the fourth wall in a relatively new way. It reminded me a bit of the way it was done on It's Gary Shandling's Show.
I was impressed with the effects involved in the fourth wall breakages, regardless of whether I liked them (mixed feelings).
