I'm pretty satisfied with this ending. She really loves our country, her daughter, not so much.

Putting aside the usual stretching of reality for Homeland, this was one of my most enjoyable finales ever.

Which was the theme of the series leading with an opening shot of young Carrie and how 9/11 deeply effected a young child.

Carrie was not a young child on 9/11. She was already a CIA agent.

Wait, so Carrie could have just went to Sauls sister all along and just tell her that he is dead to get the name? It was that easy?

I try not to examine this show too much. You just have to accept how ridiculous it is or you won't get maximum enjoyment out of it. I thought it was a very satisfying ending to an overall strong final season. In my opinion, the show was never the same after they killed off Brody, but it still provided some solid entertainment all the way to the end.

I was extremely satisfied with the ending. One the better series' finales.

They really had me believing she was gonna let them kill Saul. The tears sold it for me.

I was satisfied she abandoned her daughter. Her having Brody's child was a stupid story forced into the plot because Claire Danes was pregnant in real life.

Loved how complex the Russian's character was. Some good and some bad, but really just doing his job.

Liked how Carrie put on heavy makeup for him at the end. Something she'd never done before, but it was part of the illusion because a Russian would want that kind of woman.

Overall a great series and very satisfying ending.

Yeah, pretty decent ending...although in our universe there's no way Putin's Russia would trust her enough to let her near any sensitive information. Or Kremlin grocery lists, for that matter.

But it's been clear for a long time that the show is set in an alternate universe. ;)

Who knew that the UN building was concealed carry?
Shortest direct flight from Washington DC to Tel Aviv in the history of aviation.

I realize they couldn't end the series without a Saul/Carrie scene. And their final confrontation was one of the most riveting, emotional scenes they've ever done. I literally fist-pumped when Saul said "Go **** yourself."

But having Carrie return to the US created so many implausibilities (even for Homeland) that they could have avoided. The ending reveals that at some point Carrie realized Saul was right - in the big picture, it was more important to have an asset in Moscow than probably anything else - including a conflict with Pakistan. Giving Carrie the benefit of the doubt, she realized this before her confrontation with Saul, which is why she had the "alternate" plan in place. But then she could have just gone to Israel immediately and lied to Saul's sister to get the information she needed. She also could have told Saul - "This is the only way this works. I will replace Ana. Here is how we sell it to the Russians." That could have saved Ana's life (they could whisk her away that night)....Carrie still provides the verification to Gromov, war is avoided and Carrie begins her two year mission to become the next Ana.

But the way they set it up, Carrie Mathison - the biggest flight risk in the history of flight risks - is ROR after being charged with accessory to murder of the POTUS?

Final nit - Ana probably would have been safer had they just kept her in the press room with all those witnesses.

Even with all those implausibilities, it was a really good finale. They were going for bittersweet and they nailed that.

Yeah, I still say her first move (not her last) should have been bringing the problem to Saul.

I did have to laugh at the looks on the president and his warmonger advisor's faces when they realized they'd been played in exactly the way everybody else had been warning them about. :D

Looked to me that Carrie built her own asset base over the last 2 years to get info (her meeting in the ladies room), not that she had direct access to sensitive information.

I thought the flow of information was going the other way. Carrie passed the note to the woman who shipped the book to the "Professor."

    OMG, yes.

Totally agree. Saul and Carrie together could have come up with a plot to accomplish all those goals, and kept Anna alive, as in the example above from MacThor.

    Same here.

You’re probably right, as in the Homeland Universe, that would be less believable (that Carrie has access to sensitive information) ;)

Also, don't you think having Gromov as a boyfriend that it would be pretty easy for him to detect that Carrie is running an operation?
He does seem like the Russian version of Carrie, and quite good at what he does.
Also, if she gets caught, it's game over -- not like she can head to the US Embassy for protection.

Oh right, this is Homeland. :)

Perhaps she could phone Jason Bourne. It is Homeland, after all - more unbelievable things have happened...

It would have kept her alive long enough for the Russians to take her into custody right after the press conference and put her on a plane back to Russia. She made it clear that once she was burned, a bullet to the head was the preferred option.

Oh, going into custody was never an option. And there was very little time for Scott "no relation to Jack" Ryan to think. But she could have just asked for asylum in that room in front of a few dozen witnesses. I have no idea how the rules work regarding defections in the UN building. :)

Question: at the end, just before the 2 year flash forward, I couldn’t make out the audio. Yevengi mentions that ‘Saul was able to warn her’ and Carrie says something I couldn’t make out. They then jump in the car and race off somewhere. What did I miss?
