Season Two of His Dark Materials. Spoilers allowed up to any episode that has aired on HBO.

We're off and running. Fast paced first episode.

I enjoyed the start. I, surprisingly enough, didn't feel all that lost, after watching the S1 finale again the other night.

BTW, I'm not sure what they did on HBO Max (which I watched over my DVR recording) but the picture and sound was fantastic. Not 4K (but I suppose my TV does some upscaling of 1080p to 4K), but it just looked it, and lots of use of surround sound too.

I've certainly noticed improved sound on the last two HBO originals I've watched (this and The Undoing). I watched Raised by Wolves (an HBO Max original) a few weeks ago, and I thought the sound quality was utterly terrible. Not sure if things improved at some point in time, or if HBO just does a better job than HBO Max! (I watched all these shows on HBO Max.)

I'm still liking it, but it feels like it's moving at a snail's pace (again, never read the book(s) so not sure if that's just how it is). First episode really set things up well, but the last episode in particular bored me.

I'm a happy man. Mrs. Coulter's monkey got it's ass kicked. I hate that monkey. It also looks like she might soon not need him at all.

Just out of curiosity. What do the daemons do when their humans "get busy"? Do they go into another room? Do they hang around and watch? I don't really need an answer but the question popped into my head when Latrom was trying to seduce Mrs. Coulter.

Maybe they do the nasty with the partner's daemon? That's something I would have never thought of! Especially since this is kind of a kids show (and yes, there are certainly adult elements)

One thing that interests me, but apparently neither Pullman nor the show people are interested in pursuing, is that the daemons are opposite sex. What if you're gay? Would you then have a same-sex daemon?

I readily admit to having a crappy memory. Have we seen cars in Mrs. Coulter's and Lyra's original world?

Latrom left Mrs. Coulter's party in a car.

What happened to the last two episodes? It stopped on HBO Max at Episode 5.

Amazon apparently has them. At least in some countries. The last episode (#7) of the season already posted.

I think it airs on BBC one day before here.

It's actually on the BBC eight days before HBO (episode 7 aired this past Sunday, completing the season in the U.K., and episode 6 aired Monday on HBO).

I guess we got a hint to the answer to that this week.

As villains go, I really, really like the Ms Coulter character.

She's certainly more complicated and interesting than your typical screen villain...at times, it's even hard to call her that (but then just when you start to wonder, she does something truly despicable!).
