CBS sure has a CGI budget for their sitcoms. First smoking monkeys in Big Bang Theory, now this!

When Ted said "And Kids that is how I met your Mother" I jumped up off the couch and said wow did not see that coming and then he said "Sike" and I thought man he got me with that one.

It's funny that people get pumped up about the Mother part. It's a sitcom and the "who the mother is" doesn't even really matter at all. Hell it probably will be a bigger revel of who Barney is marrying, either Robin or someone else.

It does matter. The writers have known from the beginning who the mother is and have been setting it up for years. The entire run of the show is leading to the reveal of the mother. That's not to say that that's the only thing the show is about, but it clearly is the major plot arc of the series.

I thought the same thing...kind of a similar layout, but the soup place on HIMYM was far dingier.

This. But we've had this argument about 3x every season. Without the mother, we can just call the show Friends 2.

I'd say that it's more a shaggy dog story than a Macguffin but, either way, the story is leading to the reveal of the mother. You can enjoy the show without caring about who the mother is, but you can hardly fault those of us who are interested it that story since it's clear that the writers and creators of the show spend a lot of time thinking about it.

    Bah.

I want to update what I said in another thread. The only reason I'm still watching the show is Barney, and occasionally Marshall. Jason Segal is a very decent dramatic actor.

And what would be wrong with that? Enjoy the show for the laughs and admire the fact that the stories are well crafted. If there's a payoff at the end, great, but in the meantime, it's just a funny show with mostly likable characters.

The place probably lost business and went downhill once Elaine published all the family recipes she found in the Soup Nazi's armoire.

Nothing...if that is the premise of the show. But it's not. When you call a show How I Met Your Mother, it begs the question...well, how did he meet their mother? Otherwise call it some generic name and we wouldn't have this debate :)

But then you'd complain that the other name was too obscure. ;)

Anyway, it's called "How I Met Your Mother", not "Meeting Your Mother". There just happens to be a lot to the "how".

    Chicago-ish...
    That was my first thought.

I called the pregnancy pretty quickly, but it was still an awwwww moment.

I did too. As soon as she got sick, I said, that isn't from the soup, she's preggers. But, did the fact that Marshall thought it was from the soup cost him his dream job?
