   A TiVo DVR requires a service plan to function, beyond watching previously recorded content. The service plan can either be an All-In plan, either sold with the unit or purchased separately, or a service subscription, paid monthly or annually.
   
   Many TiVo boxes sold on eBay include All-In service (fka “Lifetime”).
