I am almost embarrassed to actually ask these questions but since this is somewhat anonymous and the posts I have read appear to be civil, I will give it a whirl. I have had a HUGHES HDVR2 TiVo unit with DirectTV for 1308 days. In those 1308 it has never been hooked up to a phone line. I assumed the phone line was only for PPV stuff which I never order. Whenever I hit the TiVo button it says I need to make a call and I just ignore it and move forward. Well anyway it runs slow. By slow I mean it takes several minutes from the time I hit the button to actually getting to the menu. I am not sure how many messages the machine will hold, but if there isn't a limit, it has 1308 of them on there. The version of software is: 3.1.1b-02-2-151 So here are my questions... 1. Could the old software be slowing the machine? 2. Could the messages be slowing the machine? 3. Are there better software versions out there that I should dial in for? 4. Am I missing any cool features by using 3.1.1b? If so, what am I missing? 5. Is there a way to delete the 1308 messages at once? I would rather shoot myself in the groin than delete them one at a time. 6. Lastly, I see folks talking about "hacked" boxes. What are the benefits to hacking the box? I know I must sound like a complete noob, but I am honestly fairly tech savy, I just have never farted around with the TiVo stuff and have spent all my time on my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
