Makes me wonder why someone would actually spend their time turning some of these movies into HD. I have a feeling they are just cult favorites of Cuban's.

Recently I have had the displeasure of sitting through:

    Heartbeeps
    The Funhouse
    and
    Flash Gordon

And the only reason I watched them was because they were in HD!!! Can't wait until DirecTV's expands the HD channels this month.

I don't wonder about that nearly as much as I wonder why these movies were made in the first place. :) :)

With all of the new HD channels coming on board Cuban is going to have to change both of his channels. They were fine as niche HD channels with little competition but there isn't much I would watch on either station now.

I'm a little curious - if they were so bad - why you watched them, even if they were in HD. I'd much rather watch quality programming in SD than crap in HD. I mean, as Beavis so famously put it, you can't polish a turd.

Feel lucky that you have HDNet. On cable I am stuck with MOJO, talk about bad pointless programming. It was way better when it was INHD.

Weren't they HD to start with?

Film having a higher resolution than Full HD, it wouldn't be too much effort to Telecine the film to 1080p/i.

Heartbeeps and The Funhouse also run on UniversalHD, which I believe is unrelated to HDNet. Are there really so few films in HD transfers at this point?

I think that is what I am saying, are these the movies so high on the priority list to be getting a transfer before movies like say...Casino?

There is also the cost factor, getting the cheaper cult movies to HD.

Flash Gordon was on? Aww...crap. The wife has never seen it so I wanted to subject her to it!

So getting more HD channels is going to magically provide us with better movies? :D

The first 2 were on UniHD.

Flash Gordon is on because the tv show is coming back to network tv

please dont confuse us with UniHD

It was tongue in cheek and if you are the real Mark Cuban (well you have the same user name as MC does on AVS) I doubt you are the one out there telling them what to buy and convert just because you want to see it.

Did not mean to confuse HDnet with UniHD but both of you regularly have excellent movies on. Just sometimes I get drawn in just because it is HD.

Oh and thanks for the The Spanish Prisoner you can't even get it on DVD anymore and HD is very appreciated.

    I think that's "savior".

I've often suspected that this is indeed a big part of how HDNet is run. I mean, it's so random.

But yeah, you can't blame him for "Heartbeeps".

There is nothing wrong with Flash Gordon. Please don't criticize it.

Ha, I knew Mark couldn't resist replying to this thread. Surprised it's his first post over here though.

I still remember when The Funhouse was on HBO, I even remember the ads. "I know, let's spend the night... in the funhouse!". Memorably annoying. I had to watch it again when it came on Uni.
