The HDMI port failed on my 3-year old Premiere XL4. Component cables work fine as a temp substitute, but I would rather use the HDMI port. Other devices work fine on the same HDMI cable and TV the TiVo had been using for the past two years -- so it seems as if the problem is the HDMI port on the TiVo. So the question is: How difficult is it to replace an HDMI port as a DIY project? What details do I need to know regarding the specifics of the port I buy as a replacement? Not particularly interested in shipping it off for repairs, would rather do it myself and save the $$. Thanks!

    • Depends on whether you have the necessary tools and skills.
    • The problem is you don't know if the problem is the port itself, the interface chip or the motherboard.
My XL4 has the same problem.
Spent hours searching the web (2 years ago when it failed) and found no useful info to help with diagnosis or repair.
I gave up since the component output works and I mostly stream to a Roamio in another room.

Good point about the chip. Thanks.
