Yeah, I agree. Indeed, the main reason I might decide against an XL (if I were in the market for another TiVo) is that very thing.

I think you may know what you mean, but please be precise with this topic. All CableCards are 2-way. You definitely won't see a tru2way TiVo inside the next 9 months, if then.

    Neither...
And I think you're just (deliberately) just trying to start an argument, for the sake of starting an argument.

This thread asked for our opinions. And I gave mine. And you gave yours. And we don't agree. Why can't you just let it rest?

Only if you could record two channels from two Sat. boxes.
They need to get on the ball to be able to do Dish or DTV and not sure Cable.

A new agreement between DirecTV and TiVo was announced two days ago. Some form of DirecTivo will be available towards the end of next year.

Well, almost complete bunk. Superior materials and manufacturing tolerances will produce a product less likely to cause problems under a broader range of circumstances.

Yes, however a better cable can in some instances get the bitstream to the end when an inferior cable won't. Still, most of Monster's BS is just that, and while they do produce a superior cable, there are cables of just as high quality and even better for much lower prices. If the exposed conductors are gold plated, the connectors properly crimped or soldered, the cable meets or exceeds specifications, and the ends are properly strain relieved, then the cable will work famously. None of that plus labor overhead, packaging, shipping, and a reasonable margin comes to $100, however.

I hope they have Sat recording in Tivo 4. No Sat was one reason I did not go for lifetime on my THD.

At this time there is no way I would buy a THD XL. I would rather buy a THD for under $200, add a 1 TB drive for $135 and continue to use my universal remote. So my version of THD XL will be $335.

I question the usefulness of a poll that doesn't have a way to indicate the current price is "right" or even a way to say the product is under priced.

Price looks about right to me. I'd probably just go with the HD model and a self upgrade but not everyone wants to void their warranty. Not everyone wants to have to open up a unit.

There is a cost associated with THX certification.

I question the usefulness of a poll that isn't applied against a normalized sample of the target population. I doubt anyone is implying that the poll means anything at all. vBulletin polls are toys; nothing more.

Unless I score one helluva deal on a refurb unit, I won't be buying my 2nd HD Tivo until a tru2way box becomes available.

I would also hope that tivo would update the electronics a bit more to support gigabit ethernet and a faster processor so that decode and transfer of recorded programs occurs more quickly.

They will probably drop it to $499 at retail before the holiday season is in full swing, after they wring some extra cash out of the earliest of adopters.

I still think that a $249 Tivo HD + $120 1TB hard disk and the time it takes to put it together is a far better deal.

THD XL is already at $527. If they don't see enough sales, there will be a special holiday price.

I think most people are buying discounted THD's for around $200 or so and upgrading the drive at this point. Most people don't care for THX or the fancy remote.

The poll does show that about 50% people want the price to be around $400 (including your's truly). But at this time, I will not buy another THD or Tivo 4 unless it works with Sat.

Certainly true for me. I purchased the HD for $225 shipped from Amazon three months ago and immediately spent another $75 to put in a 500GB drive. Don't give a fig for THX and I use a JP1 One-For-All remote to control everything I have, so I never needed the Tivo remote.

    Bingo!

the existence of the XL model is to highlight the value proposition in the regular TivoHD.

With "cheap" CC set-top boxes and the regular TivoHD that requres considerably less upfront investment, the XL model is going to be a hard, if not downright impossible sale for Tivo to the average consumer who may not have any Tivo experience to begin with.

what the XL model does is to make a sale of the regular model that much easier. I can see folks pointing out the $199 (or $249 / 279) price tag on the regular TivoHD as such a great value proposition, vs. the XL's sky-high price.

I suspect TivoHD doesn't really hope to sell many XL at all. They are trying to use it as a way to stop the pricing declines on the regular TivoHD.

    that's all.

Comparing to Weakness is not valid as the weaknees box can't be upgraded without hacking it.

For someone who wants a decent amount of space out of the box and the option to add an esata drive later, it is a good deal.
