DirecTV is attempting to switch out my Huges HD TIVO (Model HDVR2) with their HD DVR (non-TIVO). They called me last week saying simething like my TIVO won't work after they upgrade some of their signals later this fall.

Is this for real? I don't want to give up my TIVO or HD. Should I ride it out and hope my TIVO lasts until the new HD DirectTIVOs are available?

Your Tivo will work fine. The HD stuff won't.

The HDVR2 is a standard-def DVR. It will continue to work fine and receive all the channels it gets now - no need to replace it. The "HD" in its model name stands for "Hard Disk".

If you want High Definition, then you'll need one of the DirecTV HR2x models, unless you want to wait a year or more.
