Maybe it is just me, but when reading the Bill Hodges trilogy, along with The Outsider, I did not picture the Holly character like either of these representations.

I don't recall if her race was ever mentioned in the books, but in my head, I imagined her as an older white woman, very socially awkward, and not nearly as confident as the character in HBO's The Outsider.

It's been a while since I read the trilogy, but the Holly Gibney character did not fit my preconceived expectation either. I'm liking the direction they went with it though. Overall, the casting decisions for this series really work well together.

I'm loving this series. My current favorite. I just worry that as soon as they start explaining things, it's going to become less interesting quickly. Does anyone know if this is supposed to be a limited run one-season thing, or will it continue?

Pretty sure it's a limited run series with just 10 episodes.

It has that kinda feel to it, like there's not going to be much story left once the season completes. I haven't read this novel yet; only the Mr Mercedes novels.

If it has strong enough audience reception, maybe they can find a way to continue it in a loose manner, kinda like was done with The Sinner (one recurring character pulled into different independent cases).

Watched the latest Friday night as it was dropped early. Probably due to the Super Bowl.

So Jeannie sees the outsider, draws a picture and Ralph does not see it looks similar to one the kid drew? And why is the outsider warning Jeannie to tell Ralph to stop investigating? I thought it didn't care who gets in its way.

And one too many fakeouts (the hooded person in the waiting room and the baby with her dad and not taken by the outsider).

We are very close to dropping this show. It just drags and drags.

Did Jeannie see the picture the kid drew? She talked to her about it so it seems reasonable.

The kid drew the picture at the police station. Don't think she did.

I saw an article about The Outsider that said the screenwriter wanted to go in a different direction with the Holly character, even going as far as to ask to rename her (Stephen King said "no" to that).

Ok fine, I understand wanting to go in a different creative direction.

But what boggled my mind was the the screenwriter said he had not read the Bill Hodges books. That is where Holly originated, and he couldn't take the time to read even one of those books?!? I'd think getting the backstory of a primary character would be required reading.

It came together somewhat this week. i was thinking the same thing as you. When I start doing "other things" while watching it means I'm starting to lose interest. But this week grabbed me. I'm in for the duration.

I think having read the book, the show doesn't seem to drag as much because I know where they are going with it all.

This week's episode was great. Can't wait for Ralph and Glory to eat crow when Holly does not seem as crazy as they think she is.

It's kind of weird seeing a Stephen King story where the protagonist refuses to believe he's in a Stephen King story... :D

I'm just through ep 4 (*edit*) and see where it's beginning to come together. I was on the fence and leaning toward the precipice, but this ep pulled me back.

So, I caught up. Seems like, after 6 episodes, things are mostly explained (though maybe there's some misdirection?), which leaves 4 episodes to find out who wins.

With Stephen King it's usually find out who dies.

It is really ramping up now and with two episodes left it better!

Thought last night was really good. The acting is so good in this series.

Last week's episode finds Claude (strip bar worker) quitting and leaving town. Last night they all pretty much leave to find him. Even Ralph! There's a storyline about a family going to a fair about caves that results in El Cuco going after the boy. Suffice to say there's big revelation at that fair.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he's finally come around to believing at this point. Otherwise he's just an idiot, which we all know the character isn't. I have to admit, given the same circumstances, I'd have a very hard time coming to terms with it myself. I don't believe in anything supernatural.
