Hello, Tivo Newb here so please bear with me.

I purchased a tivo series 1 off ebay without a HD, I put in a 120 GB HD using instant cake to make the image (I did this a couple of times due to errors on my part) now when I go into system information it says recording capacity 4 hrs, 17 min (Best Quality) 14 hours, 22 min (basic quality)

I am a computer professional so I can handle tech talk, just new at the whole tivo hacking thing. Any ideas why it thinks I have about a 15 GB HD?

Did you do a DD from the source to the destination without running MFSadd? It sounds to me like you didn't add the extra partitions that would take up the rest of the drive space.
Out of curiosity why did you get such a tiny hard drive?

It was an instantcake Installation, (I've never done a straight IC install always a zipper  so I could be wrong), so I imagine it is all scripted, so mfsadd is probably out of the loop. As to size, we all know that size doesn't matter  , but Since the tivo he got didn't have a drive to start with, I imagine the 120GB is something he had lying around.

as far as drive size you got it in one. as far as doing the mfsadd I have used this IC on another Tivo and it read the full drive (about 80 GB) any way I can unlock the drive w/o having to reformat again (although I'm getting VERY good at the getting started

DO NOT UNLOCK the drive, it is not locked.

put the drive in the PC do a cat /proc/partitions from the Linux command line. being a "computer professional" you should have no problems interrupting the results.

If entire drive is not filled with partitions do the mfsadd.
else with the dirve in the TiVo do the Clear And Delete Everything.
    endif

Does Linux have an FDISK/Format type command? Is it on one of the bootdisk like mfslive?
