Can I take a hard drive from a 40 hour Tivo Series 2 and place it into a Humax T800? My lifetime Himax drive died. I have a 40 hr Tivo that is not being used.

Is spending $150 for a 300GB drive from Weaknees my only option? I'd just like to replace an 80 GB drive with something comparable as my TivoHD is my main box anyhow.

No, you can't do this. But you can buy an InstantCake CD image for $20 and load it onto a hard drive you purchase separately.

The Humax will want a disk at least 80GB and with the software built for that model.

Any drive recommendations? I see mention of a Seagate DB25. Anything retail which is similar?

The issues to be concerned with are noise, heat and reliability. Pretty much any PATA drive you buy will work. Some are noisier or run hotter than others. Go to the Upgrade section to get many more opinions. Look for reviews of the drive you're considering to see how it rates for noise and heat. Ignore performance, that doesn't matter for TiVos.
