Hopefully someone can help me here. I just upgraded my Antenna to a TERK outdoor HDTVs. I had a small Attic antenna, but was losing signal a lot due to weather and the techshield lining on my roof. I now get over 95% on ever HD OTA freq. However, I am not receiving digital audio over any OTA channel anymore and must manually change the audio setting of the H10 from Dolby digital to hear the audio.

To be clear, I have had no problems other than the signal degradation using any of the HD channels OTA with the unit in the past. And to test this new issue, I connected the Old antenna back to the receiver. It also does not seem to be picking up the Digital Audio from HD broadcasts.

This is not a Directv issue, none of my DTV channels have problems outputting Dolby digital, the problem is only occurring on the OTA HD channels.

Does anyone have some tips or anything they can help me figure this out with?

    Thanks.

The antenna has nothing to do with it. Check the optical cable and the settings on the audio receiver.

I run optical digital audio to my amp; it works fine with both satellite and OTA broadcasts. I don't recall any HR10 settings specifically related to audio for OTA broadcasts. Be sure you didn't knock your optical connection loose.

You're doing something wrong, likely you changed inputs or something and didn't set your AVR to receive audio from the optical input. Or you disconnected the optical cable.

Well I have not changed anything in the a/v cabinet. The only change was in the attic where the coax to the antenna changed antennas. I've double checked the optical cable and it is fine, I switched it out with an alternate cable and have the same problem. And like I said, this is only occuring for OTA broadcasts, the digital audio signal is fine from SAT 1 and 2. I am not multiplexing the ANT signal at all. It is a direct line to the ANT in on the unit from the Antenna.

Like yall have said, there is no separate setting for OTA digital audio, so I am very perplexed by this sudden change.

There is a setting under audio setup to enable dolby digital. Do you have this set?

Yes. It is set to record and output in dolby digital if available. It only fails to play audio under this setting if it is on an ANT channel. If I set the setting to analog only it plays only analog audio, I get no digital audio from any channel.

My reciever is set to Auto Detect digital/analog signal. Changing this setting does nothing.

This all worked fine up until a week or so ago. I only found this by changing antenna a couple days ago to a newer antenna. I reconnected the line to the old antenna and have the same problem. I go back on recordings off of ANT for the past 2 weeks and about Dec 23rd, it stopped receiving digital audio from the OTA ANT HD channels. This occured prior to any system changes.

Can you play a DD DVD through the A/V receiver? Does it play DD then? Use the same connection that you've been using for the H10-250. I suspect it's the AV receiver.

Well, the problem is now occurring on my HD Sat channels as well so DTV is sending a replacement unit. Hopefully this will fix it.

And as for testing the input on the receiver, I did do that initially and had no propblems with the receiver or the toslink cable.

What kind of A/V receiver do you have?

I have a B&K AVR-507 and have the exact same problem you have. I get no audio when the HR10-250 is set to output DD when available. I have the problem on D* and OTA HD. I am on my second unit as well. I think its a compatibility issue. Optical out is not strong enough. Hope you have success with your replacement.

*****Anyone else out there with a B&K experiencing the same issue?*****

My (previous) B&K unit would get confused sometimes when I switched from DD to non-DD channels. Have you tried switching sources on the B&K (to something else), and the back to the HD-TiVo? That usually took care of the problem for me. But better, contact B&K, as they've probably got an upgraded firmware that fixes those sort of issues. Unfortunately, those units are not user-upgradable, and must be sent in. But they turn stuff around pretty quickly... And they'll do anything else to bring it up to spec - not a bad deal - take advantage of that 5 year warranty!

    Yes!!

Have a very similar problem with my HR10-250 set to Yes, use DD and B&K AVR. But it may be even nuttier than your have thus far experienced and I am floundering.

Sony SAT60 with DD enabled and optictial digital on B&K V1. No problem at all, B&K properly recognizes and displays DD on the front screen as does the info on the screen on my Panny 50PHD8UK connected through B&K on SVHS.

HR10-250 with DD enabled and optical digital on B&K SAT, and video direct to the Panny via HDMI. No audio at all, B&K reports PCM signal. BUT, if I switch the B&K to another input, say V1, and then right back to SAT - bingo. I now have DD5.1 from my HR10-250 and B&K front panel is correct and audio is great. HOWEVER, if I enter any Tivo command at all, pause, slow, replay, change channel, etc., the sound goes away, B&K goes back to PCM and I have to switch B&K input out of SAT and then back in to return to DD5.1.

So, why does it all work swell with my SONY SAT60 and is very cranky with the HR10-250? Why would just flashing in and out of the SAT input on the B&K get it going? Why does any command to the HR01-250 cause it to stop (have the Tivo beep set to off), but there is no problem with the SAT60?

Also, DVD DD5.1 via optical audio and component video input to the B&K works as it should.

Those of you with a B&K might try setting your HR10-250 to Yes, use DD and then switching B&K input sources to see if it comes alive for you as well. Haven't tried using component rather than HDMI - maybe you have.

Like to learn of your experiences with B&K AVR and HR10-250. and maybe we need to get back to B&K.

    Thanks

I am having a similar problem. When using HDMI and selecting Dolby Digital in the audio section of the Tivo, my AV receiver will play audio on any channel. But my TV will not play audio on any OTA or HD channels. If I select standard audio everything works, but no DD.

I don't have this problem when using the component input, but the video resolution is not as good.

BTW, this is the 3rd unit so far and all have done the same thing. I have ran cables from the audio out of the tivo into the rca jacks beside the HDMI port on my set. I have also checked the settings on my set (sony wf55) and haven't found anything that can be changed to help the situation.
