Advertisements I am a current Tivo Series 2 owner. It's hooked up to an old CRT TV. It's an HD-ready TV, but the single HDMI port is being used by a Roku box. The TV also has composite and S-video connectors. We are not heavy TV users at all, but the Tivo was used heavily for the Olympics. We also record Mythbusters because it's on after the youngest kid has to go to bed. Really, it's nice to have for a few things, but TV is not central to our lives (especially in the summer, we watch more TV in the winter). Comcast is currently giving us "limited basic" service on analog coax, but they are going "all digital" in the next 6 months. DH, who is even cheaper than I am, is horrified at the 500 current fee for lifetime, so I'm starting to watch for a used Tivo. But, I haven't been following the Tivo product line at all in the past 6 years or so, so the model names and numbers mean nothing to me. Can somebody give me a crash course on what kind of old Tivo to watch for? (name and model number to search on eBay or the seller's forum here). I believe my needs are: 1. Can read analog cable today, digital cable w/ CableCard in 6 months. 2. Doesn't use up my one HDMI port on the TV, if possible. 3. Is a model that's been reliable for people (I don't want to buy a used model that's been notorious for problems). We'll probably use whatever we buy until it dies, and even then we'll try to fix it before tossing it out. DH has swapped out the disk drive and a fan on the current Tivo over the years. Thanks!
