I've had this problem a couple of times.
The Tivo message pops up saying it's going to change channels from 541 to 514 to record a show (Tivo Suggested), but it doesn't change the channel, and starts recording anyway.

I thought no big deal, the IR blaster must be the problem, checked it, looks fine.

The problem is that when I hit INFO the Tivo shows the actual channel that it is still tuned to, 541 with the show name.
But when I hit GUIDE, it thinks it's on 514 (which it was supposed to be on to record)

When I check Now Playing it says it's recording 514.

If it was an IR program, then after hitting INFO the information should be for channel 514... not 541. I'm not sure why the INFO and GUIDE information does not match.

    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks for any help!

    What receiver?
I would bet it is an IR problem. Do channels change normally?

It is an IR problem. Try the Serial output if your cable box supports it.

Ya see. The channel change is requested by the tivo. However it is not confirmed by the cable box. So you have dust, hair or light from some odd source. The channel might not change.

I am guessing you get most of the channel changes but every so often one will get missed.

It's a Motorola reciever and the channels work fine. It has no serial.
I understand how the IR blaster works.

If it is an IR problem why would the program info say it's on channel 541 with the correct program info and the guide say it's on channel 514?? An IR problem would NOT make the INFO and Guide information different, no matter what channel the reciever was on.

If it did just miss the IR code then when I pressed INFO it would give me info for the program on channel 514 (which it would think that it's on) not the program info for the show on 541

    Here's what happened:

    Tivo/Sat on 541 (kids show)

Tivo trys to change channel to 514 (x-play)
    Sat channel does not change.

I press the Guide button ...
Tivo is on channel 514 (x-play) position in the guide, but channel number in the top right says 541 (why?)
    Sat still on 541

    I press INFO button ...
Tivo says it's on channel 541 (with the info for the kids show)
(should this not say 514 and the info for X-play???)

Even with no sat connected the Info Button and the Guide Button should always match.

Sometimes a simple restart of the TiVo can work wonders.

What particular receiver? They are nearly all Motorola.
