I wonder how much time will have passed when the show starts back up in the fall.
Last year, it was effectively no time, IIRC.

Doug, just who is it who's standing behind you, with a .44 Magnum pointed at your head, every Thursday at 9 p.m.? :)

I have no idea what I usually do at 9pm on Thursdays, actually.

    You know... TiVo and all...

I simply would like enough time to pass between seasons that Izzy is dead when the new season begins.

What a depressing episode! NO ONE was happy. About anything. I understood Christina wanting out of the dress, but to cut her out? Come on. I totally fell for the ploy of the Chief's wife dying, I feel like a putz. I am glad they are going to be back together, working on their marriage. They are two good people. Plus, the Chief is a hot man and I enjoy watching him. Derek is so hot when he is sad/crying. Meredith needs some massive therapy and then she'll hopefully realize how great she and Derek could be. Alex looked really bloated to me.

    Wow, is that even readable?

What a huge downer episode. Not very satisfying at all. I watch this show every week, but after being held hostage watching the Private Practice-Grey's sandwich episode and now this, I'm questioning the leadership of this show. Some very unsatisfying decisions being made....

The show clearly peaked last season. They really have ran out of story lines, at this point. They even killed Meredith and bought her back to life.

I don't think this qualifies as spoilers, since all the information is out there, but to be safe:

Ausiello previously confirmed that George would be on the show next season. He declined to debunk the rumor that Burke would be written off, however. Somewhat confirming both, Shonda Rhimes wrote up commentary on the finale in her blog. Her discussion alludes to what's in store for all the characters next season, including George, but perhaps notably NOT including Burke.

Did anyone else have the episode end five minutes early. Using an H20, I know, wrong forum, but I tought maybe it was a guide issue?

It's odd, in the blog posting Shonda says the stories came full circle. I've gone from liking alomst everyone but Alex and Addison to only liking them.

Burke - How can he not see what's wrong
    Cristina - just a fake
    Meredith - emotional Cripple
Izzy - Where to start. She wants stuff only when she can't have it.
Derek - One screwed up marriage and now an emotonal cripple who turns down the only job he ever wanted.
Chief - WTF, you decide to resign then get back with the wife and then decide to keep the job that broke you apart.

I still like Callie ( smoking hot ) and although I think Alex is emotionally a bit repressed, he figrued it out even though he waited to long. I used to really hate him
Addison works for the sense of humor ( essential ) and the amazing eyebrows.

I also think what happened with Bailey just wouldn't happen. Two reasons. 1. If she had competition for the job, she would have know long before two episodes ago and even at that, they haven't shown callie doing anything remotely teacherish with the residents. The chief resident is a teacher, to pull the rug out so suddenly completely rings false. 2. The chief has a soft spot for her, he wouldn't blind side her. Even if he decided to give the job to Callie, he would tell her, not just post it on the board.

So much bad writing and in her blogs shonda thinks it's all great. Frankly I'd hate to know just about anyone on this show right now. They all have the emotional maturity of a two year old. By the time you get out of Med school you are generally either 24 or 26, you should have some emotional stability and gravitas by then. These people have none. It's like they are emotionally in jr high like the kids I saw last night in prom clothes getting into a flight in a restaurant. These people all need to grow the heck up.

So let me get this straight ... Meredith's wuss of a father abandons his family when Meredith was a child and eventually starts a new family, and yet her half sister is only a year younger than she is?

Of all the ridiculous plot twists this season - Meredith dying and Izzie's 180 (oh, I'm a mess because I love Denny and he's dead, but suddenly I'm a mess because I love George and he's married) - George failing his intern exam ticks me off the most.

And the worst thing is that his wife heard the secretary talking to him about letting the people know the cheif job, so in the end when everythign was all hunky dory, she had the belief that he was imminently anming his successor.

I totally agree. I honestly thought that he was going to then call Bailey into hsi office and give her some great job they never talked about. THe only other thing I can see is that maybe he will tell her that since he really wanted it to be her all along but she was not ready, that he would keep it for 2 years then it was hers.

This concerns me for the future of the show. I remember the some other comments earlier this year about how great certain shows were and I just had to scratch my head. I will have to look at this show like a new show next year and see what is going on.

I do like Chyler Leigh though, so maybe it will still work.

Interesting point. I didn't even think of that.

I found it interesting that Derek met Lexi Grey in the bar the night before she started her internship. He met Meredith in that same bar the night before her Internship started.

When Meredith's sister asked George if he had any advice for the new kids, I was hoping he would say "don't have sex with anyone in the hospital."

It's strange to find out that Lexi is Meredith's sister 'cuz of the parallels of the bar scene with Meredith and Derek too. Strange enough that it was the same bar, but I remember thinking that she was reading Meredith's original lines as her come-on to Derek.

I always thought that the Chief would end up keeping the position (a few eps. ago, someone had visited and told him something that eluded to him staying). I too was confused about the 2 Chief positions though. I thought it was only one, and that's why the others were surprised to hear that Bailey was in the running for the position as well. I wish they'd made that clearer! All along I assumed that they were all going for the same position. It made all the Chief/Residents conversations very confusing in the timeline, especially after Callie's name had already been posted.

I did enjoy the episode though (sounds like I was alone, as usual). I even cried a couple of times...during Rebecca's plea to Alex, and Christina's panic attack.

The surgical internship wasn't a year. It was 2 years. Or was it three? Definitely not 1.

Maybe Lexi skipped a couple of grades.

I thought they had. At least they did to me.

    Chief of Surgery. Chief Resident.

Attendings have completed all their training and are no longer interns/residents. Only they can be in the running for Chief of Surgery.

Chief Resident... basically the main resident.

I was under the impression that the series up to this point only covered one year. It would make sense that there would be a new batch of interns each year and that the existing batch would move up the ladder.

Spoilerized for anyone who may think that a big ? about an actor's return is spoiling something (though if you follow the link, it won't tell you anything for sure one way or the other).

Don't write Isaiah/Dr. Burke off too quickly, just saw this story:
