I believe that Sony may be discontinuing the 52V3000, as it is not available everywhere. They do have the w3000 also, but since it is only $300 less than the XBR4 I would probably go for the XBR4.

You have become victim to mis-leading marketing. LCD and Plasma displays are progressive scan by the nature of the technology. Hitachi is a good example they have a 42 inch plasma marketed as a 1080i Display or as having 1080 lines of resolution. It is model 42HDX99 if you read the detailed spec sheet (warning PDF file) you will find that the TV actually has a resolution of 1024(H) x (1080)(V). Which is not what is required for 1080p/i and is not a standard HD broadcast resolution or a standard HD TV resolution (CNet has an acceptable article outline the various resolutions). To be 1080p/i it would have to be 1920 x 1080.

So Hitachi (and others) are pulling normal marketing bull **** they pump up the vertical resolution to 1080 and then use the 1080 number hoping no one will notice that the horizontal resolution is only about half of what 1080p/i TV really is and because the TV can accept and process 1080i signals they also use that in a misleading way.

    Thanks,
