I was shocked it was available, but I checked the circuit city website and every store in area had them in stock! I bought it at retail so I could transfer my current contract, rather than do MSD. I don't have cable cards yet, but the thing ROCKS!

I'm hoping one thread will be started for every TiVo HD bought so I can easily gauge the Gross Adds.

The other threads had to do with ordering Tivo HD. I wanted to point out that one need not wait, and tax is pretty much a wash because no shipping cost.

I think most people will be sticking with the cable company DVR they already have or getting a DVR from the cable company rather than buying one they have to worry about fixing on their own and paying a high monthly TiVo fee just to be able to use it.

You are still kinda of new here.

I meant no harm. just poking fun. That is part of the fun of TCF.

But still, many people start threads without using the search button to find an existing thread in which their post would fit nicely.

Heck, in the last 12 months (after being here awhile) someone pointed out to me how to use the advanced search (by post, and thread).

It's just mildly humorous when a new product (that has been talked about for months) comes out and multiple threads are started that cover the same thing.

Happy almost 1 year anniversary here!

You are probably right, but it doesn't take a large market for something like an HD Tivo to be sustainable.

Additionally features like TTG/MRV (coming soon apparently) and online scheduling, etc, aren't available with cable company DVRs.

I expect to see some really heavy advertising from Tivo this fall on the new boxes and they could do something like a $99 year of service promotion tied in to a new box purchase.

If Tivo could get even 1% of current cable DVR subscribers to make the switch that would be a huge increase over what they have now.

    good analysis.
Also, as DVR users we tend to be myopic and think that everyone already has a DVR. With the coming advent of cheap HD TVs and the slow but steady move of cable to digital more nad more people will be looking at DVRs for the first time. The sub fee is a big part of the decision process but TiVo needs to market the benefit of ownership - upgrade to the hours you wnat to keep on the DVR - see the difference in broadband features and MRV/TTG(wgen it is enabled) etc.. These DVRs do not really break much no matter the source so that really is just a very small concern that cable companies might harp on.

Also the market will change and people will soon be able to buy their own Set top box off the shelf. The idea of buying your own equipment will start to grow, not shrink

Being a potential 1%'er, I need from TiVo (and my cable co):

    1) A "bargain" price, around $200 would do nicely.
    2) Around $10/mo for service without having to commit or prepay more than 1 year
    3) eSATA to wake up on the TivoHD
    4) MRV (I'll take 2 then!)
    5) 1 Multistream card so I don't have pay cable "additional outlet fees"

    1. Will happen in time.
    2. Will probably never happen.
    3. Supposedly this fall.
    4. Supposedly by the end of the year.
    5. M-Card supported now, so that's up to your cable company.

I think you are wrong. It applies to the Series3 perhaps, but not the Tivo HD.

I was begrudgingly going to get a cable company DVR because the Series3 was just way too expensive for me. However, at $500 less, the Tivo HD makes things economically feasible.

I eliminate the cable box rental fee and the remote control rental fee. I add a $6.95 a month Tivo fee and $2.50 to rent an M-Card. This is roughly a wash.

I will gladly remain in Tivo Land for $299!

A friend of mine made this comparison...

For someone who has never owned a DVR, using a cable company DVR is like moving from a bicycle to a car.

For someone who owns a Tivo, using a cable company DVR is like moving from a Lexus to a Ford Escort.

Please don't insult the good people at Ford.

Using a cable company DVR after using a Tivo is like moving from driving your own Lexus to having to walk two miles uphill in the rain to take a bus and hope it shows up to take you close to where you need to go.
